The Los Angeles Chargers inked a pair of young wide receivers to reserve/future contracts this week, bringing Da'Ron Brown and Jamaal Jones into the fold.
Brown is a 6-0, 199-pound product out of Northern Illinois who was originally a seventh round draft choice (233rd overall) by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2015. He caught 155 passes for 2,295 yards and 19 touchdowns over 55 career games in college for the Huskies. The wide receiver turned heads in the preseason that year, recording seven receptions for 67 yards and one touchdown before spending the entire year on Kansas City's practice squad. Last preseason, he caught five passes for 39 yards before being waived. Brown was a member of the practice squad for the New England Patriots, New York Giants and Miami Dolphins in 2016 before signing with the Bolts.
Meanwhile, Jones is a 6-1, 189-pound wideout who was a Second-Team All-American and First-Team All-Big Sky selection at Montana in 2015. He caught 75 passes his senior season for 1,217 yards and 11 touchdowns. As a result, he was named the team's offensive MVP. The wideout set a school record with 3,021 career receiving yards over four seasons, ranking third in catches (184) and eighth in touchdowns (22). Jones initially signed as an undrafted free agent with the Chargers last year, but unfortunately suffered an injury early in training camp. He was subsequently placed on the reserve-injured list and waived later in August.
