Philip Rivers Named to 2017 Pro Bowl

Another Charger is heading to the Pro Bowl as Philip Rivers will replace Ben Roethlisberger, who is unable to participate due to injury.

A five-time Pro Bowl selection prior to this season, Rivers was originally selected as a second-alternate for the AFC. This marks the fourth time he'll play in the annual all-star showcase.

In his 13th season, Rivers ranked fifth in the NFL with 4,386 passing yards in 2016. It was the fifth-highest single-season total of his career and seventh-highest in franchise history. Number 17 also ranked fourth in the league with 33 TD passes.  They were the second highest total of his career, and tied Dan Fouts (1981) for second most by a Charger in a single season.  He also completed a career-high 16 passes of 40 yards or longer, which were second only to Atlanta's Matt Ryan (17).

Rivers joins a pair of teammates making their first Pro Bowl appearance in Casey Hayward and Melvin Gordon.  This marks the most players the Bolts have had in the game since 2012.
