Chargers Sign Speedy RB Kenjon Barner

The Los Angeles Chargers added speed to their running back corps and on special teams Monday, signing former Philadelphia Eagle Kenjon Barner to a one-year deal.

Barner has appeared in 31 games for the Carolina Panthers and Philadelphia Eagles since entering the league in 2013. He's carried the ball 61 times for 260 yards, averaging 4.3 yards per attempt with two touchdowns, while catching 18 passes for 71 yards (4.4 ypc).

Barner set career-highs last season in games played (13), average yards per carry (4.8) and touchdowns (two) before a hamstring injury ended his season in early December.  He also emerged as the Eagles' primary kickoff returner, setting career-highs in return average (30.8) and total yards (277).

Originally a sixth-round draft pick of the Panthers in 2013 out of Oregon, Barner appeared in eight games for Carolina as a rookie. He was traded to the Eagles the following summer, but was waived/injured at the end of the preseason. Once healthy following a short stint on the practice squad, he found his niche the past two seasons at running back and on special teams.

A native of Riverside, CA, the 5-9, 195-pound Barner appeared in 49 games with 20 starts during a standout collegiate career at Oregon.  He left the Ducks ranked second in school history with 3,623 rushing yards and tied for second with 41 rushing touchdowns.  Barner also recorded 54 receptions for 591 yards and seven touchdowns.

In addition, the Chargers also announced on Monday that exclusive rights free agent wide receiver Geremy Davis signed his contract tender.
