Antonio Gates Returns! Chargers, Tight End Agree on New Contract

Antonio Gates has had 104 touchdowns during his career with the Chargers. Take a look at top photos of some of those 104 TD's.

Over the last 13 seasons, Antonio Gates has authored one of the greatest careers for a tight end in NFL history, rewriting the San Diego Chargers record books in the process.

His story is far from over.

Gates and the Bolts have agreed to a new two-year contract, making 2016 the latest chapter in the 35 year old's Hall of Fame worthy career.

Already the franchise leader in career receptions (844), receiving yards (10,644) and touchdown catches (104), Gates enters 2016 on the precipice of history.  He became only the seventh player in NFL history to reach 100 career touchdowns last season, and his 104 total TD catches are just seven shy of Tony Gonzalez' all-time mark for a tight end.  Gates' 104 touchdown catches are the most in the NFL since he entered the league in 2003. Number 85 currently ranks third among all tight ends in league history in total receptions and receiving yards.

Philip Rivers and Gates enter 2016 as the most prolific QB-TE tandem ever to play the game.  They've connected for 77 touchdowns, which are the most in NFL history.  The 13-year veteran also has 21-career multi-touchdown games, which are most ever for a tight end ahead of Gonzalez (18) and Rob Gronkowksi (14). His last multi-TD game came last year against the Jacksonville Jaguars, catching the 273rd and 274th touchdown passes of Rivers' career which tied and then passed Joe Montana for 12th all-time.
