You can never have enough cornerbacks.

The Chargers on Wednesday announced they have agreed to terms with Benjamin St-Juste in free agency, a move that gives the Bolts strong depth in the secondary.

St-Juste spent the past four seasons with Washington after being a 2021 third-round pick by the franchise.

He appeared in 54 career games with 45 starts as he ascended into a full-time role in recent seasons.

St-Juste started 30 games over the past two seasons and helped the Commanders reach the NFC Championship this past season with a career-high 71 tackles. He also added seven passes defensed and a fumble recovery.

The 27-year-old brings elite size to the position as he is listed at 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds. Think of St-Juste in a similar build to Cam Hart, who is 6-2 and 207 pounds.

The Chargers have Hart and Tarheeb Still back in the mix after the two each showed plenty of potential as rookies in 2024.

Donte Jackson is a fresh face in the room and has plenty of starting experience with 95 career games. Deane Leonard and Ja'Sir Taylor are also under contract in 2025.

Ask any NFL front office or coaching staff and they will tell you that cornerback is a position where teams need ample depth through the season.

The Chargers saw that firsthand in 2024 when Hart and Still were asked to step into bigger roles due to injuries to other players.

The addition of St-Juste gives Chargers Defensive Coordinator Jesse Minter and defensive backs coach Steve Clinkscale another chess piece to work with.

Perhaps St-Juste starts at some point in 2025 and gives the Bolts solid play on the back end. At the worst, he could serve in a reserve role and strengthen the overall depth of the group.

Chargers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh knows St-Juste, too, as the cornerback played one season for him at Michigan in 2017.
