Celebrate AAPI Heritage Month With Elle Uyeda

ElleUyedaSpotlight

Introducing Elle Uyeda, our Strategic Solutions Coordinator!

How has your heritage shaped the person you are today?

My heritage (both as a Japanese-American and being raised in Hawaii) has shaped the person I am today through traditions, cultural practices, and values.

As we celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, what are some aspects of your culture that you enjoy sharing with others?

The food! Food is an aspect of my culture that has always brought people together. I love to cook/eat Japanese food and local Hawaiian food- it always reminds me of my family and my home. I enjoy sharing different dishes and flavors that people may not be familiar with (yet)!

Did you always have a desire to work in sports?

Yes! I wasn't sure exactly what that could look like, but knew I loved sports and everything that it brings to a community.

How'd you get your start?

I participated in a professional development program with LASEC (Los Angeles Sports and Entertainment Commission). Through the program, I was able to learn about the sports industry and establish relationships with my peers and mentors.

What is the most rewarding part of your job and why?

Creating partnerships that connect people and brands in meaningful ways.

What advice do you have for those trying to get into sports/starting their career in the sports industry?

Work hard, be confident, be curious, and expand your network.
