Bolts Cruise Past Browns for Week 9 Road Win

The Chargers moved to 5-3 on Sunday with a 27-10 victory over Cleveland.

Here is a game recap from Week 9.

First Quarter

Justin Herbert, Derwin James, Denzel Perryman, Khalil Mack, Bradley Bozeman and Rashawn Slater were the Chargers captains. Cleveland won the toss and elected to defer. Herbert and the Bolts offense began with the ball but punted it away on the first possession after the drive stalled just before midfield. The Chargers defense forced the Browns to punt on their first possession before Derius Davis flipped the field with a 53-yard punt return. The Bolts started at Cleveland's 30-yard line before Herbert found a wide-open Joshua Palmer for a 27-yard touchdown to open the scoring.

The Bolts defense forced another punt but the Chargers offense went three-and-out after getting pinned at their own 5-yard line. Khalil Mack tallied a sack to thwart Cleveland's third drive as the Bolts took over at their own 21 after a punt. The offense went three-and-out and as the quarter came to a close.

Second Quarter

The Browns drove into the red zone but the Bolts defense came up big as Morgan Fox's third-down sack forced Cleveland to kick a field goal. The Bolts led 7-3 early in the second quarter.

The Bolts big-play offense showed up again as Herbert found Quentin Johnston for a 66-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. It was the Bolts second straight game with a 60-plus yard scoring play.

The Chargers defense kept flying around as Fox notched another third-down sack to for a Browns punt and leave Cleveland at 1-of-6 on third downs so far. The Bolts offense hit chunk plays through the air to Johnston and Ladd McConkey to set up a 16-yard touchdown run from J.K. Dobbins to increase the lead to 20-3 late in the second half.

The Chargers defense forced another three-and-out before Cleveland's punt rolled out of bounds at the 4-yard line. The Chargers moved away from their own end zone and advanced into Browns territory just before halftime before the clock ran out. The Bolts led 20-3 at the break.

Third Quarter

The Browns put together a long drive to open the second half as they marched down to the 5-yard line. But Cleveland came away empty-handed as Tarheeb Still batted away a pass that was intercepted by Elijah Molden in the end zone. The Bolts still led 20-3 as the offense got the ball back.

The Chargers offense went three-and-out on their first possession of the second half as the Browns started at their own 47. Both teams punted on their ensuing possessions before the Bolts defense struck with another takeaway. Alohi Gilman made a diving interception on Winston as he tallied a second straight game in Cleveland with a takeaway.

The Chargers punted it away again before the Browns took possession and crossed midfield just before the end of the third quarter.

Fourth Quarter

The Bolts defense made a big-time stop on fourth down but the Chargers couldn't add to their lead as Cameron Dicker missed a 44-yard field goal early in the quarter. But the Bolts defense forced a third interception of the game as Tarheeb Still recorded his first-career interception in the fourth quarter.

The Chargers special teams came up clutch late as Teair Tart blocked a 51-yard field goal try. Dobbins then put the game on ice with 46 yards on four carries, including a 7-yard touchdown run that put the Bolts up 27-3.

The Browns added a touchdown with under a minute to play to make the score 27-10. The Bolts, who moved to 5-3 on the season, will return home in Week 10 for a date with the Titans.
