We asked our panel of experts and insiders to select their choices for various awards for the 2018 season. We will reveal their answers over the coming days.
Let's take a look at the best win of 2018:
Ricky Henne – Week 13 at Pittsburgh
It's reaalllllly heard to not choose the thrilling win over the Chiefs or the playoff victory vs. the Ravens, but my heart is with that epic Sunday night comeback in Pittsburgh. Man, that was fun. From being down 16 points at halftime to tying it up with a pair of TDs and two-point conversions, including Desmond King's punt return, was incredible. Then you add in Michael Badgley's game-winning field goal after the Steelers jumped offsides three times – jeesh! It really doesn't get much better than that. And then you add in the historical context and it shows just how special a win this was. The Steelers were 222-0-2 all-time at home when leading by 14 at halftime, and 174-0-1 when up by 16 points. They also were 8-0 all-time at Heinz Field in primetime December games. When I think back on the 2018 season, this is the game that I'll think of first…but that Chiefs win is pretty dang close!
Hayley Elwood – Week 15 at Kansas City
When the Chargers' schedule came out last April, the Week 15 primetime AFC West clash between the Bolts and the Chiefs stuck out. Well, ask anyone and you'll hear that it certainly lived up to its expectations. After all, the Chiefs had a nine-game win streak over the Bolts and had gotten the best of them in Week 1. The game had everything, including a trio of touchdowns by Mike Williams and oh yeah, it had drama, too. The Chargers overcame a 21-7 deficit, penalties and turnovers to surmount an incredible comeback for a 29-28 victory, a playoff berth and at the time, a share of the AFC West lead.
Chris Hayre – Week 15 at Kansas City
When Michael Badgley's game-winning, 29-yard field goal in Pittsburgh went through the uprights, it was difficult to envision any game surpassing the Chargers' come-from-behind victory over the Steelers on Sunday Night Football. Eleven days later, though, that's exactly what happened. With less than four minutes remaining, Los Angeles overcame a 14-point deficit on a cold December night at Arrowhead Stadium to beat a division rival on a two-point conversion. The dramatic win snapped a nine-game losing streak to Kansas City and clinched a playoff spot.
Daniel Jeremiah – Week 15 at Kansas City
This was a tossup between KC and Pittsburgh. Both come-from-behind efforts were incredibly exciting. However, the KC win was more meaningful, coming against a divisional opponent with a lot at stake.
Matt "Money" Smith – Week 13 at Pittsburgh
The Bolts got the spotlight they so deserved, and after falling into a hole that history told us no other team had ever emerged from, they shocked the Steelers and the league by battling back with two scores in the final four minutes.
