NFL.com's Marc Sessler and The Athletic's Nicki Jhabvala were guests on Thursday's episode of Chargers Weekly, the official podcast of the team.
Jhabvala provided insight into Los Angeles' upcoming opponent, the Denver Broncos. Sessler explained what makes this 7-2 Chargers team so dangerous, and previewed the biggest AFC matchups in Week 11. Highlights from the conversation are below:
Jhabvala on the Broncos playing in close games:
"It's been interesting with this team. I mean, last year they lost eight straight, they were blown out along the way. The last time they were in L.A., they took their first shutout loss in 25 years. This team is better in regard to – they're not getting blown out. Their defense – their pass rush – is still there, but their defense isn't as solid. The offense is improved; they got a run game, but their record at this point is still the same as it was last year. The difference being is they're a little closer in their losses and I think it comes down to, in each one, maybe a couple plays here and there that are just kind of silly mistakes …"
What Sessler likes most about the 2018 Chargers:
"I like the balance. It's so easy in the NFL with the way this season is, especially with the best teams out there, to just focus on offense; and you look at the Rams and the Chiefs and certainly the Chargers – and there's so many showy pieces on that side of the ball that sort of dominate the highlight reels. But, I really think that their defense, also, has been so key. I mean, you haven't allowed 20 points since Week 4 and I just think that this is the Los Angeles Chargers team that people have been waiting for, because they really can do it – they can hurt you in so many different ways and that's unlike other teams in the AFC and NFC that are dominating."
