Due to their generous contributions and assistance in times of crisis, the Spanos family and the Los Angeles Chargers were recognized as Red Cross L.A.'s Humanitarian Organization of the Year.
"Being named Humanitarian Organization of the Year is a tremendous honor for us," said Chargers Controlling Owner and Chairman of the Board Dean Spanos. "My father prioritized philanthropy from the moment he took ownership of the team and in the decades since, it's truly become the heart of who we are as an organization. Being selected for this recognition is humbling because you don't reach out to help others in time of crisis to be recognized; you help them because it's the right thing to do. We come together when disaster strikes and fortunately for us, time and again, the American Red Cross has also been there to help us get back on our feet. That's why we give."
The Spanos family and the Chargers continued their legacy of giving back to the community in 2017, investing in the life saving work the Red Cross does each and every day. They donated $250,000 to the Red Cross for victims of the 2017 Southern California wildfires and $500,000 towards Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.
"The Chargers' mission is to put a great product on the field, but also to make a positive impact in the community," said President of Business Operations, A.G. Spanos. "That's really the north star of our organization."
"We have a tremendous opportunity with this platform at a team level and a league level to make a positive impact and affect so many," said President of Football Operations, John Spanos. "I think the Red Cross is an organization that really embodies what community is all about. In times of tragedy or whenever there is a really unfortunate situation, it's great to see people coming together to help one another. That's what community's all about and that's what the Red Cross embodies."
