The San Diego Chargers will host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, Sept. 18 at Qualcomm Stadium with kickoff set for 1:25 p.m. PST. The Chargers will take the field for their home opener in their all white uniforms for the fifth annual "White Hot Sunday." Chargers White Hot roller banners will be passed out to all fans entering the stadium, presented by Bud Light.
The Chargers will be recognizing the ten 2016 Chargers Champions School grant winners who will be sharing $250,000 for physical fitness, nutrition or athletic programs on their campuses. Chargers Champions, a program of the Chargers Community Foundation, is committed to improving physical fitness in San Diego County schools by providing grants for new facilities and equipment.
United States Marine Corps First Sergeant Arturo Blanco Romero will be honored at the Salute to Service Moment, presented by USAA. First Sergeant Romero has served for 20 years and has been deployed more than eight times. He has been deployed to the Persian Gulf, East Timor, Iraq, and Afghanistan with the Marine Expeditionary Unit. He currently service as the First Sergeant for Bravo Company, Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron-38, Third Marine Aircraft Wing. He has received the Purple Heart, two Combat Action Ribbons, two Navy and Marine Commendation Medals, four Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, eight Afghanistan Campaign Medals, an Iraq Campaign Medal and many others.
Fans in attendance will also enjoy pregame entertainment by the Frog X parachute team, featuring retired navy seals, who will be leaping into Qualcomm Stadium. The National Anthem will be performed by All-4-One, an R&B group best known for their cover hit single "I Swear" from their self-titled 1994 debut album, while 240 sailors and marines present a U.S. Super Flag and service emblems from all branches of service.
At halftime, the New Mexico State University PRIDE Band will be performing their 2016 Diva Show, featuring the music of Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, and Patti LaBelle. The halftime performance has a twist specifically for Chargers fans. The band is led by Director of Bands, Ingrid Larragoity-Martin and the Interim Associate Director of Bands Cheldon Williams.
