The Chargers finished out their exhibition slate Saturday with a 26-19 win over Dallas.
Here is a game recap from Week 3 of preseason play.
First Quarter
Easton Stick, Tony Jefferson, Josh Harris, Brenden Jaimes and Simi Fehoko were the Chargers captains. The Cowboys won the toss and elected to receive. The Chargers started on defense and allowed a field goal on Dallas' opening offensive possession. The Bolts offense wasted no time in scoring their first touchdown of the preseason as Derius Davis took an end around 70 yards to the house on the first play of the game.
The Bolts defense forced a punt as the Chargers took over on their own 11-yard line. The Bolts went three and out but Jaylen Johnson had a textbook tackle in punt coverage for no gain. Jefferson tallied a sack on defense and helped the Chargers got the ball back just before the end of the first quarter.
Second Quarter
The Bolts struck fast to open the second quarter when Stick hit Fehoko on a go ball for a 78-yard touchdown to push the Bolts lead to 14-3.
Jefferson kept up his big day with an interception off Trey Lance a few minutes into the second quarter.
The Bolts turned Jefferson's takeaway into points as Cameron Dicker hit a 21-yard field goal after the offense could't find the end zone from inside the 5-yard line. Dallas answered back with a lengthy scoring drive that ended with an 11-yard touchdown pass. Up 17-10, the Bolts got the ball back but went three-and-out on three straight incomplete passes. But the Chargers got the ball right back when Jefferson forced a fumble that was recovered by Jeremiah Jean-Baptiste. The Bolts moved past midfield before Stick found Cornelius Johnson for 13 yards on third-and-10. That led to a 48-yard field goal from Dicker to push the Bolts lead to 20-10 at the halftime break.
Third Quarter
The Bolts started with the ball and put together a solid drive into Dallas territory. But the sequence was halted when a Stick throw was tipped at the line of scrimmage and intercepted. Dallas almost turned the takeaway into points but Jefferson denied the Cowboys with an interception in the end zone for his third forced turnover of the game. The Bolts offense went three-and-out before Dallas converted on fourth down from midfield to keep its drive alive. The Cowboys scored on the next play with Lance keeping it himself for a 46-yard touchdown run. Dallas' ensuing 2-point conversion pass was denied by rookie Cam Hart as the Bolts led 20-16 after three quarters of play.
Fourth Quarter
The Cowboys cut into the Chargers lead midway through the quarter quarter with a field goal. But rookie outside linebacker Tre'Mon Morris-Brash capped off an impressive training camp and the preseason with a pick 6 that gave the Bolts a seven-point lead. The Bolts went for the 2-point play but did not get it as they held a 26-19 lead with just over four minutes to play.
Dallas got the ball back looking to score but the threat was ended with an interception from cornerback Matt Hankins.
Dallas moved got into the red zone with seven seconds left but their last-gasp effort was picked off by Robert Kennedy for the Bolts fifth interception of the day. The Chargers ended the preseason with a 26-19 win. The Bolts will now get ready for a Week 1 home date with the Raiders in their 2024 season opener.
