Shortly after the Chargers took him in the third round, defensive tackle Justin Jones called Chargers.com to give his exclusive first interview as a member of the Bolts.
Chargers.com: First off, how does it feel to call yourself a Los Angeles Charger right now?
Jones: You don't even know! It's crazy! There are a lot of emotions going on right now, especially being around my family. I'm just glad I got an opportunity and I'm blessed to be here.
Chargers.com:So, tell us what happened when your phone rang and it's the call you've been waiting for.
Jones:I'd been sitting at the bowling alley watching everybody go. So I went home, but ya'll called me and I was just getting out of the shower! I got the call so I ran out. It took me like six chances to answer, but I finally did.
Chargers.com:How much contact did you have with the Chargers throughout the draft process?
Jones:I met them at the Senior Bowl with (Area Scout) James MacPherson. I met them at the Combine and at the Pro Day.
Chargers.com:For Chargers fans who don't know much about you or never saw you play, what do you bring to the table?
Jones:I'm a student of the game and willing to learn. I'm somebody who's ready to come play football. I've never been to Cali before. It's crazy!
Chargers.com:What are the strengths of your game?
Jones:I think I'm explosive. I'm pretty strong.
Chargers.com:Who do you model your game after?
Jones:I watched Gerald McCoy, Aaron Donald and Ndamukong Suh. Suh has that violent mentality and Donald is a technician. Gerald McCoy is explosive. I feel like all of that embodies my game.
Chargers.com:You're coming to a team where next to you is going to be Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram. Two of the best in the league. That's got to be pretty exciting for you.
Jones:Yes sir! From top to bottom, they're hard working players. They focus on the little things getting the tools, fundamentals and all those important things.
Chargers.com:Finally, this your first chance to talk to Chargers fans. What do you want to tell them?
Jones:I'm coming to work!
