Exclusive First Interview with Sam Tevi

Shortly after being selected in sixth round, offensive tackle Sam Tevi called Chargers.com to give his first interview as a member of the Los Angeles Chargers:

Chargers.com:After sitting through 189 selections, what was that moment like to get the call from the Chargers?

Tevi:It felt great. Waiting through the fourth and fifth rounds was stressful, but when I saw the Chargers were coming up next I was hoping it would be them.  Then I got the call.  They told me they would draft me and I just said, "Oh my God.  Thank you very much!"

Chargers.com:Did you have any feeling that the team was interested in you?

Tevi:No.  I didn't talk with them at all. We had no contact.  They just watched me at my Pro Day and the Combine.  After that they didn't call me at all.

Chargers.com:What does Sam Tevi bring to the table and what do you need to improve on?

Tevi:My quickness is my biggest strength.   My footwork.  I think I am pretty physical, too.  At the same time, I think I need to finish blocks more.  That is what I will work on improving.

Chargers.com:Have you built any type of relationship during the draft process with the other two offensive linemen we've picked in Forrest Lamp and Dan Feeney?

Tevi:Yeah, we got to know each other really well at the Combine.  To go through this with them is going to be great.  I can't wait to ride through the whole process with them.  It couldn't be any better.  It's going to be one hell of a ride.

Chargers.com:You played with Tenny Palepoi at Utah.  How close are the two of you?

Tevi:Very.  He and I are brothers.  He texted me a lot during this whole process.  Once he found out I was going to the Chargers he texted me a bunch and threw a lot of jokes at me.

Chargers.com:What are your thoughts on the offense you are joining?

Tevi:I couldn't have asked for a better one with Philip Rivers, Antonio Gates and all those guys.  It's a great position to step into.  It's the best you can get right there.

Chargers.com:Finally, what do you want to tell all the Chargers fans out there?

Tevi:I am going to contribute as much as I can to put a smile on your face.  I'm ready to go to work.
