While you may be aware safety Dexter McCoil fulfilled his dream of playing in the NFL last season after stints in the Arena Football League and Canadian Football League, here are five fun facts you may not know about number 23.
Charger by Day, Chef by Night: "I love to cook!" Being that he's a Louisiana native, McCoil said he loves cooking Cajun food and his favorite dish to make is crawfish étouffée. "At a young age, my grandfather showed me how to cook eggs and stuff like that. But ever since then, I always had a passion for cooking and eating too, so I kept it up."
Fire Stick Fan: In his spare time, McCoil mentioned he likes to watch movies and TV shows. "I watch a lot of shows. I like Prison Break and I'm waiting on Power to come back." However, he has a plea to Chargers fans out there: "I'm actually trying to find a new show to get into so if you have any suggestions, let me know!"
First Job: McCoil's first job was cleaning up his childhood church in Louisiana after Sunday services. "I would vacuum, clean the bathrooms and basically do anything to make the church good for the following Sunday."
Seeking Man's Best Friend: McCoil had a Border Collie Lab when he was younger named Darkness. "We named him that because he was all black with one itty bitty white spot." Although Darkness is no longer with McCoil, the safety is hoping to get back in the dog game soon. "I want to get a bulldog but I want to wait until I get more settled."
Give Him a Beat: "I haven't done it in a while, but I used to play drums when I was younger. I'm sure I still can." McCoil picked up percussion at church and he would play for his church's youth choir. He learned how to play from other drummers at his church. "I would sit down to watch them and they taught me." He said it doesn't matter what type of music it is, if it has a beat, he's willing to play. "Once I get settled in a home, I'd like to get a drum set, put music on and just chill."
