December 31 -It's only fitting that a season in which so many Chargers were lost due to injury ends with another player heading to IR on New Years Eve. CB Craig Mager was placed on the Reserve-Injured list Saturday, becoming the 21st player currently on a reserve list due to injury. The Bolts filled Mager's spot on the active roster by promoting LB Carlos Fields off the practice squad. Fields appeared in five regular season games and one postseason game for Washington in 2015.
December 27 -An injury ravaged season for the Chargers running backs continued as Kenneth Farrow became the fourth to be lost for the year. Andre Williams was promoted to the active roster to take his place while Gus Johnson returned to the team's practice squad.
December 14 -Brandon Flowers' season has come to an end as the Bolts placed the cornerback on the "Reserve-Injured" list on Wednesday. He suffered a concussion Nov. 13 vs. the Miami Dolphins. DT Kaleb Eulls takes his place on the active roster after spending seven weeks on the practice squad while DT Chuka Ndulue returns to the practice squad.
December 12 -The NFL announced that DE Tenny Palepoi has been suspended for four games for violating the league's policy on performance enhancing substances. Palepoi will miss the last three games of this season as well is Week 1 of the 2017 campaign. A veteran cornerback is taking his place on the active roster as the Chargers claimed Robert McClain off waivers from the Carolina Panthers. McClain appeared in 11 games with six starts this season, and started the Super Bowl for the Panthers a year ago.
December 7 -There is a new addition to the practice squad as the Chargers inked former Eagles cornerback Randall Evans. A 6-0, 195-pound product out of Kansas State, Philadelphia selected Evans with the 196th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He spent the majority of his rookie year on the Eagles practice squad before being promoted to the active roster and playing in the season finale. Evans spent the 2016 offseason in Philly before being waived toward the end of the preseason. Originally a walk on at Kansas State, the 24-year old appeared in 51 games with 31 starts for the Wildcats, totaling 210 tackles, seven interceptions and 35 passes defensed. He was named a first-team All-Big 12 pick in 2014 after leading the team with four interceptions and 14 passes defensed.
December 3 -Another defensive playmaker has been lost for the year as Jerry Attaochu was placed on the Reserve/Injured list. The outside linebacker's injury plagued 2016 campaign comes to an end after he sustained a broken foot late in the Bolts' 21-13 win over the Houston Texans. A fellow draftee from the 2014 draft class is taking Attaochu's spot on the active roster as San Diego promoted NT Ryan Carrethers from the practice squad. He began the year on the team's 53-man roster.
November 23 – The Chargers filled their empty spot on the practice squad by signing linebacker Chris McCain. The former Cal product has appeared in 20 games since signing as an undrafted free agent with the Miami Dolphins in 2014. He totaled five tackles and one sack in 10 games as a rookie, adding another sack in eight games last year. McCain was traded to New Orleans before the start of this season, and appeared in two games for the Saints.
November 22 –Ronnie Hillman is returning to San Diego as the former Aztec star was claimed off waivers by the Bolts. The running back led last year's Super Bowl Champions in rushing, but was surprisngly waived by the Broncos before the year began. He appeared in five games this season for the Vikings before joining the Chargers. Meanwhile, the Bolts bolstered the secondary by promoting CB Trovon Reed off the practice squad. To make room, the team waived WR Griff Whalen and placed NT Brandon Mebane on IR (biceps).
November 21 –The Bolts filled two open spots on the practice squad Monday by signing Carlos Fields and Kaleb Eulls. Fields is a 6-1, 248-pound linebacker who has spent time with six teams since entering the league in 2014 as an undrafted free agent out of Winston-Salem State. He appeared in five games a year ago for Washington, totaling five tackles in limited action. Meanwhile, this marks Eulls' second stint in San Diego. The defensive tackle began the season on the team's practice squad before being waived in early October.
November 15 – San Diego announced that center-guard Chris Watt has been waived from PUP after failing his physical. The former third-round pick in 2014 out of Notre Dame began the year on PUP with a knee injury. Watt's career was marred by injuries as he appeared in only 17 games with eight starts over three seasons.
November 14 –The Chargers kicked off their bye week on Monday by making some roster moves. First, the team announced that NT Brandon Mebane was lost for the year after suffering a biceps injury. The defensive captain posted 35 tackles, 15 pressures, six QB hits and one sack in 10 games. Meanwhile, San Diego promoted T Tyreek Burwell from the practice squad to the active roster while waiving LB Deon King. Burwell began the year on the 53-man roster before King took his spot on Nov. 5 with the Bolts short at inside linebacker. Finally, the team also announced they waived LB James Burgess from the practice squad.
*November 9 - *For the second straight week the Bolts added a new wide receiver into the mix as they signed Geremy Davis off the New York Giants practice squad. The former UConn product was originally a sixth-round draft pick last year, and has two career catches in 10 games. The team also reunited with a pair of familiar faces as OT Tyreek Burwell and CB Michael Lee were signed to the practice squad.
*November 8 - *The Chargers parted ways with Steve Williams for the second time this season as the cornerback was waived on Tuesday. A former fifth-round pick in 2013, Williams appeared in five games this year with two starts after re-joining the team on October 5.
*November 5 - *It was a busy day at Chargers Park Saturday as the Chargers made a quartet of transactions. RB/KR Dexter McCluster was placed on the "Reserve-Non Football Injury" list after fracturing his forearm away from the facility. The team also waived T Tyreek Burwell to make room for a pair of players promoted off the practice squad in ILB Deon King and WR Isaiah Burse.
*November 2 - *The Bolts reunited with wide receiver Isaiah Burse, re-signing him on the practice squad after he was activated for last Sunday's game.
*November 1 - *The Chargers made a switch to the practice squad Tuesday, signing LB James Burgess while waiving WR Kevin Norwood. If the name sounds familiar, it's because his father, also named James Burgess, played two seasons for the Chargers from 1997-98. The team's newest linebacker signed with Miami as an undrafted free agent out of Louisville earlier this year, totaling 10 tackles in four preseason games with the Dolphins. He started 42 games over his four-year career with the Cardinals.
*October 31 - *Philip Rivers has a new weapon at wide reciever as the Chargers claimed Jeremy Butler off waivers from the New York Jets. The 6-2, 213-pound WR caught 31 passes for 363 yards in eight games last year with the Baltimore Ravens. To make room, the team waived WR Isaiah Burse.
*October 29 - *San Diego promoted WR Isaiah Burse to the active roster off the practice squad and waived CB Pierre Desir 24 hours before kickoff in Denver. This marks Burses's second stint on the 53-man squad this season as he spent the first two weeks on the active roster. He caught six passes for 72 yards and a TD this preseason.
*October 26 - *The Bolts filled an open spot on the practice squad by signing former Seattle Seahawk CB Trovon Reed. The Auburn product initially entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2015, spending portions of last season on the Seahawks, Dolphins and Rams practice squads. The 6-0, 191-pound cornerback appeared in three preseason games with Seattle this summer. Reed spent his first four years at Auburn as a wide receiver before switching to cornerback as a senior in 2014.
October 25 -DT Caraun Reid became the latest Charger to suffer a season-ending ACL injury as he was placed on IR aftering being hurt early in the victory over Atlanta. CB Pierre Desir returns to the Bolts after being waived over the weekend.
October 22 -Needing an additional outside linebacker active with Jerry Attaoachu unable to play, Chris Landrum was promoted off the practice squad while the team waived CB Pierre Desir.
October 10 -There are now 16 players on the Reserve-Injured list as the Bolts placed ILB Nick Dzubnar on IR with a knee injury. The second-year linebacker suffered the injury late in the Week 4 loss to the New Orleans Saints. NT Damion Square takes Dzubnar's place on the 53-man roster as the Chargers activated him from the exempt list.
October 5 -San Diego made a swap of fifth-round picks, bringing back former 2013 selection Steve Williams and waiving 2014 pick Ryan Carrethers. The cornerback returns after being waived earlier this year, and he spent two weeks with the Los Angeles Rams. Meanwhile, Carrethers played 20 games at nose tackle since arriving in 2014, but was inactive the first four games of this season.
October 4 -The Chargers brought Brett Boyko back on Tuesday as a member of the practice squad. The 6-6, 301-pound offensive tackle spent the summer with the Chargers, appearing in all four preseason games. He previously spent 2015 on the Eagles' practice squad. San Diego also added a pair of new faces in WR Kevin Norwood and LB Deon King. Norwood previously spent time with the Carolina Panthers while King is the second Buck Buchanan Award winner on the Bolts, following in Kyle Emanuel's footsteeps. To make room, TE Austin Traylor, OLB Ben Gardner and DT Kaleb Eulls were waived..
October 3 - There are now 54 players on the roster as the Bolts were granted a roster exemption for DT Damion Square, who returns after serving a four game suspension.
September 28 -With Manti Te'o lost for the season with a torn Achilles, the Chargers placed the inside linebacker on IR and signed ILB Korey Toomer off the Oakland Raiders practice squad. Toomer has appeared in 18 career games since being selected in the fifth round by the Seattle Seahawks.
September 26 -Two days after being waived in order to add TE Asante Cleveland to the active roster, the Chargers brought RB Andre Williams back into the fold as a member of the practice squad. The former Giants running back initially joined the team in early September off waivers, and was on the 53-man roster the first two weeks of the season. The 5-11, 230-pound Williams carried the ball 305 times for 978 yards and eight touchdowns over two seasons in Gotham.
September 24 -Tight End Asante Cleveland is back on the active roster as the Chargers promoted the tight end off the practice squad ahead of Week 3's visit to the Indianapolis Colts. With Antonio Gates doubtful to play, Cleveland gives the Bolts an experienced option at the position. To make room, San Diego waived running back Andre Williams.
*September 22- *Isaiah Burse is back with the Bolts. San Diego signed the wide receiver to the practice squad on Thursday after waiving him earlier in the week to make room for RB Dexter McCluster. Burse had a strong preseason for the Chargers, catching six passes for 72 yards and a TD. He played in last week's win over the Jacksonville Jaguars after being inactive in the season opener. WR Jonathan Krause was waived in a corresponding move.
*September 19 - *While it's impossible to replace what Danny Woodhead brought to the table, the Chargers signed versatile veteran RB Dexter McCluster to help soften the blow. McCluster became the first NFL player since 2011 to record at least 200 yards as a rusher, receiver, kickoff returner and punt returner in a single season. To make room, the team waived WR Isaiah Burse. San Diego also made a switch on the practice squad, signing former Dallas Cowboys TE Austin Traylor and waiving OT Austin Sheperd.

Running back Danny Woodhead was placed on IR after sustaining the knee injury against the Jacksonville Jaguars. To take his place on the roster, San Diego signed former Indianapolis Colts WR Griff Whalen.
September 12 - It was a tough day at Chargers Park as Keenan Allen was lost for the season, bring placed on the Reserve-Injured list with an ACL injury. The wideout fell to the turf late in the second quarter against the Kansas City Chiefs and was carted off the field. Taking his place on the active roster is DE Joey Bosa, who was activated from the exempt list.
September 6 -One day after being waived from the 53-man roster, the Chargers signed OLB Chris Landrum and TE Asante Cleveland to the practice squad.
September 5 - The Bolts added two to the practice squad, signing WR Jonathan Krause and TE Jake McGee. Krause has appeared in two regular season games, both last year with the Philadelphia Eagles as he caught two passes for 11 yards. He also won a Super Bowl ring as a member of the New England Patriots' practice squad in 2014. Meanwhile, McGee was with the Oakland Raiders this year after splitting his collegiate career between Virginia and Florida.
September 4 -Armed with the third waiver claim priority, the Bolts used their high position to bolster the roster by adding three players. The team was awarded CB Pierre Desir from the Cleveland Browns, DT Caraun Reid from the Detroit Lions and RB Andre Williams from the New York Giants. All three players were drafted in 2014. To make room, CB Steve Williams, LB Chris Landrum and TE Asante Cleveland were waived. Meanwhile, the team announced the first six players for the practice squad in DT Kaleb Eulls, OLB Ben Gardner, OL Austin Sheperd, WR Dom Williams, CB Trevor Williams and S Adrian McDonald.
September 3-San Diego cut down the roster to the mandatory 53-man limit by waiving WR Rasheed Bailey (injured), QB Mike Bercovici, T Brett Boyko, CB Richard Crawford, OLB Ben Gardner, RB Gus Johnson, DT Kamal Johnson, G-T Marcel Jones, S Adrian McDonald, DT Chuka Ndulue, ILB Shaq Petteway (injured), WR-KR DeAndre Reaves, ILB James Ross, CB Larry Scott, TE Tim Semisch, FB Chris Swain, G Vi Teofilo, OLB James Vaughters, TE Matt Weiser, WR Dom Williams and CB Trevor Williams. Meanwhile, DT Damion Square officially transitioned to the Reserve-Suspended list as he will miss the first four games of the season while DE Joey Bosa remains exempt.
August 30-RB Branden Oliver (Achilles) and G Donavon Clark (Knee) were officially placed on the Reserve-Injured list as the Chargers trimmed their active roster down to 75. QB Zach Mettenberger was waived, while WR Javontee Herndon, DT Zamir Carlis, OT Tyler Johnstone and RB Dreamius Smith were waived-injured. San Diego also received a roster exemption for recently signed DE Joey Bosa, so there are 76 players currently on the roster.
August 29-The news many were hoping to hear finally came on Monday as the Chargers signed first round draft pick Joey Bosa. The defensive end inked a four-year deal. That was just the first of a litany of moves as the Bolts must trim their roster to 53 by the end of the week. One notable player that saw his tenure with the Chargers come to an end was James Jones, as the veteran wide receiver was released after arriving earlier in training camp. Meanwhile, the team claimed RB Gus Johnson off waivers and placed C Chris Watt on Reserve/PUP. WR Torrence Allen, C Bruce Johnson,CB Michael Lee, LB Zach Hodges, DT Bruce Gaston and CB Greg Ducre were waived as well.
August 25 -The Chargers injected new blood into the offensive line Thursday, signing center Bruce Johnson. A three-year starter at Maine, and a two-time All-CAA first team selection and 2015 FCS Rimington Award winner for best center, Johnson signed as an undrafted free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles this spring. He was waived earlier this week. To make room on the roster, outside linebacker Tyler Marcordes was waived-injured.
August 24 -WR Rico Richardson was waived from IR.
August 22 - A new addition was on the field at practice today as the team signed CB Michael Lee. The 6-1, 185-pound cornerback initally joined the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2015, and ended last season on the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad. Lee totaled 41 tackles, eight passes defensed and three interceptions as a senior at Fort Valley State in 2014. He takes the roster spot of TE Jeff Cumberland, who was placed on IR after suffering an Achilles injury in the preseason victory over the Arizona Cardinals.
August 19 - WR Rico Richardson transitioned to IR after being waived-injured the day before.
August 18 -Thursday saw a WR switch as the Bolts claimed Rasheed Bailey off waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars while waiving-injured Rico Richardson. Bailey is a 6-1, 209-pound wideout who rewrote the record book at Delaware Valley.
August 15 -It was a busy day at Chargers Park as the Bolts made six transactions following the preseason opener. The team signed three on defense, including DT Kamal Johnson, LB Zack Hodges and LB James Vaughters. CB Carrington Byndom was waived while WR Stevie Johnson (knee) and NT Sean Lissemore (shoulder) were placed on IR, ending their seasons.
August 9 -San Diego waived WR Jamaal Jones from IR
August 8 -The Chargers made some changes to the 90 man roster before taking the field on Monday, signing DT Zamir Carlos and WR Rico Ricardson. To make room, the team waived P Kasey Redfern and OL Mike McQueen. The Bolts also made a move to the coaching staff, naming Fred Graves Senior Offensive Assistant. He previously held the title of WR Coach from 2013-15.
August 4 -WR Jamal Jones cleared waivers and was placed on the reserve/injured list.
August 2 -With WR Stevie Johnson's return up in the air after sustaining a knee injury, the Bolts brought another veteran wideout into the fold as they signed James Jones to a one-year contract. Jones is fresh off a strong year in Green Bay where he led the team in receiving yards, touchdowns and yards per catch. WR Jamal Jones was waived-injured in a corresponding move.
July 31 -Two new faces will be on the field when the Chargers begin their second day of training camp as the team signed a pair of defensive veterans in DT Bruce Gaston and CB Carrington Byndom. The 6-2, 310-pound Gaston played in nine games last season for the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers while Byndom had a short stint on the Bolts practice squad after appearing in five games for the Carolina Panthers in 2014. They replace DT Carlos Wray and CB Terrell Chestnut, who were both waived-injured.
July 30 -With the first training camp practice underway, the Chargers officially placed C Chris Watt on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list. He still counts as a member of the 90 man roster. While on PUP, Watt will be limited to non-contact rehab work under team trainers and physicians, but they can not involve another player. Pads and helmets are also prohibited.
July 29 -Exactly 24 hours before the first training camp practice, the Chargers signed G-T Marcel Jones. The former New Orleans Saints draft pick most recently spent parts of the last two seasons on the Baltimore Ravens practice squad. The team waived C Trevor Robinson in a corresponding move.
June 13 -The Bolts waived safety Matt Daniels from the reserve-injured list after he was placed on IR in late May with a leg injury. The safety spent most of 2015 on San Diego's practice squad before being added to the active roster late in the year.
June 10 -Late Friday night, the Chargers announced they reached a four-year contract extension with WR Keenan Allen. Fresh off a dynamic, injury shortened 2015 campaign, the 24-year old has caught 215 passes for 2,554 yards and 16 touchdowns in 37 career games.
June 2 -The roster is back at full strength as the Bolts signed tackle Brett Boyko. A standout at UNLV, Boyko spent all of last season on the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad. Later in the day, the team announced that it's second round pick put pen to paper as tight end Hunter Henry inked a four-year contract.

*May 24 - *Safety Matt Daniels was placed on the reserve-injured list on Tuesday with a leg injury. Daniels split time between the practice squad and active roster in 2015, appearing in the Week 17 finale. The team signed LB James Ross to fill his spot on the 90 man roster. Ross spent the past four years at Michigan, and made an impression as a non-contract participant at Rookie Mini Camp.
May 17 - The Chargers injected new blood into the quarterback room on Tuesday, claiming former Tennessee Titan Zach Mettenberger off waivers. The third year pro has completed 208 of 345 attempts (60.3%) for 2,347 yards, 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 14 games with 10 starts over his first two seasons. To make room, the team waived QB Bryn Renner. Meanwhile, LB Brock Hekking was moved to the reserve/injured list one day after being waived/injured.
May 16 -It was a busy morning at Chargers Park as the team made a trio of transactions. The Bolts signed guard Vi Teofilo after the former Arizona State star impressed as a non-contract participant at Rookie Mini Camp. Meanwhile, guard Sebastian Johansson was waived while linebacker Brock Hekking was waived/injured. Later in the afternoon, the team officially signed C/G Matt Slauson.
May 12 -Michael Huey was waived on Thursday. The guard/center spent multiple stints on the Chargers practice squad in 2015.
May 11 -The Bolts bolstered the scouting department by announcing six changes. Most notable, the team hired Louis Clark as the new senior director of pro personnel.

May 9 - *Rookies reported to Chargers Park for the first time on Monday morning. In the afternoon, the Bolts announced they officially signed all five players taken on the third day of the NFL Draft as ILB Joshua Perry, OLB Jatavis Brown, P Drew Kaser, FB Derek Watt and G Donavon Clark inked four-year contracts. *Earlier in the day, they added a versatile veteran into the fold as Matt Slauson agreed to terms on a two-year contract. Slauson started all 16 games for the Bears last year including 12 at guard and four at center while allowing just one sack.
May 2 - Mike Scifres was officially released on Monday as the Bolts parted ways with the greatest punter in franchise history. General Manager Tom Telesco and Head Coach Mike McCoy first announced the move on Saturday after the team selected punter Drew Kaser in the sixth round.
April 30 - The Bolts made a splash on day three of the draft as they added five players to the team in ILB Joshua Perry, OLB Jatavis Brown, P Drew Kaser, FB Derek Watt and G Donavon Clark.
April 29 -Day two of the draft saw the Chargers focuse solely on the offense as they selected TE Hunter Henry in the second round and C Max Tuerk in the third. Henry was universally regarded as the top tight end in the draft while Tuerk boasts rare athleticism for a center.
April 28 -After months of intrigue and countless mock draft projections, the San Diego Chargers selected DE Joey Bosa with the 3rd overall selection of the 2016 NFL Draft. While the Bolts kept their pick close to the vest, it's clear Bosa was the player they coveted for quite some time.
April 13 - The Chargers waived QB Brad Sorensen on Wednesday with a non-football injury designation. Initially a seventh-round pick in 2013, Sorensen spent the past three seasons bouncing between the active roster and practice squad. San Diego now has three QBs on the roster in Philip Rivers, Kellen Clemens and Bryn Renner.
April 4 - In the market for a veteran tight end, the Bolts signed former New York Jet Jeff Cumberland to a one-year deal. The 6-4, 260-pounder spent his first six seasons in Gotham, surpassing 20 catches three seasons in a row from 2012-14.
March 30 -A fourth quarterback has been added into the fold as the Bolts signed Bryn Renner. Originally an undrafted free agent out of UNC in 2014, the QB previously spent portions of the past two seasons with the Broncos, Ravens and Titans.
March 24 -San Diego considers Jahleel Addae a building block for the future, which is why they placed a second-round tender on the safety on the first day of free agency. On Thursday, "The Hitman" officially put pen to paper on his one-year contract. Meanwhile, after agreeing to terms one week earlier, T Chris Hairston officially signed his contract as well.
March 16 -Chris Hairston provided key depth in 2015, bringing versatility and toughness as he appeared in all 16 games with 11 starts. The offensive tackle will be back in the fold in 2016 as he agreed to terms on a two-year contract.
March 15 -After agreeing to terms earlier, CB Casey Haywward and RT Joe Barksdale officially signed their contracts.
March 14 -Antonio Gates officially put pen to paper on his two-year contract.
March 13 -The Bolts added a ballhawking cornerback on Sunday by agreeing to terms on a three-year contract with former Green Bay Packer Casey Hayward. The 26-year old led the Packers in interceptions in two of his four seasons, including a league-high six picks for rookies in 2012.
March 11 -After tendering both players on Wednesday, the Chargers announced that WR Dontrelle Inman and OL Kenny Wiggins signed their Exclusive Rights Free Agent tenders on Friday. Inman appeared in 14 games last season with seven starts, catching 35 passes for 486 yards and three touchdowns. Wiggins played in 15 games in 2015 including the first eight starts of his career. Meanwhile, after impressing down the stretch last season, DT Damion Square is coming back for 2016. The Chargers announced the defensive tackle agreed to terms on a one-year contract as he returns for his third season in San Diego.
*March 10 - *One day after agreeing to terms, WR Travis Benjamin, NT Brandon Mebane and FS Dwight Lowery officially signed their contracts.
*March 9 - *Mere hours before he was eligible to hit unrestricted free agency, the Bolts agreed to terms with TE Antonio Gates on a two-year contract to keep number 85 a Charger for life. Gates is the franchise leader in career receptions (844), receiving yards (10,644) and touchdown catches (104). Number 85 wasn't the only familiar face the team brought back as they re-signed QB Kellen Clemens to a one-year contract. The Chargers also tendered three players, including S Jahleel Addae, WR Dontrelle Inman and OL Kenny Wiggins. Once 1:00pm arrived, the Bolts announced a flurry of agreements as the free agency frenzy got underway. WR Travis Benjamin headlined the news as San Diego landed the coveted free agent. An explosive weapon on offense, he was also one of the top punt returners in the NFL last season. The Chargers then turned their attention to the defensive side of the ball, announced a three-year agreements with former Seattle Seahawk NT Brandon Mebane and former Indianapolis Colt FS Dwight Lowery.
March 7 - Free agency doesn't begin until Wednesday, but San Diego has already locked up a key member of last year's team. RT Joe Barksdale agreed to a four-year contract to keep the reigning Lineman of the Year in America's Finest City. A durable veteran, he was the only member of the o-line to start all 16 games.
March 3 -With the start of free agency on the horizon, the Chargers parted ways with a number of players as they released ILB Donald Butler, RB Donald Brown, ILB Kavell Conner and ILB Chi Chi Ariguzo. Butler was originally a third round pick in the 2010 NFL draft, and was a team captain in 2013. Brown and Conner both signed with the Bolts from the Colts in 2014 while Ariguzo was an undrafted free agent out of Northwestern last year.
February 9 - Head Coach Mike McCoy finalized the team's staff with the additions of Offensive Assistant Tommy Rees and Special Teams Assistant Marquice Williams. A former quarterback at Notre Dame, Rees played alongside Chris Watt, Trevor Robinson and Manti Te'o during his tenure with the Fighting Irish. He most recently served as an offensive graduate assistant under Pat Fitzgerald at Northwestern. Williams spent the last four seasons in a variety of capacities at South Dakota, and has also spent time with the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions as a coaching intern.
February 2 -The Chargers coaching staff continues to take shape with the additions of John McNulty and Dave DeGuglielmo. After spending the past two seasons with Ken Whisenhunt in Tennessee, McNulty was named the team's new tight ends coach. He boasts 14 years coaching in the NFL with other stops including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Arizona Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys. The other new addition is DeGuglielmo, who will serve as assistant offensive line coach after serving as O-Line coach for the New England Patriots the past two seasons.
January 22 -An eight-year safety and former second-team All-Pro selection, Chris Harris has been named the Chargers' assistant defensive backs coach. He most recently served as defensive quality control coach with the Chicago Bears, and replaces Greg Williams who was hired as defensive backs coach by the Indianapolis Colts earlier in the week.
January 15-Five changes to the coaching staff were announced Friday to bring the total to seven since the end of the season. Most notable was the return of Ken Whisenhunt as offensive coordinator. Whisenhunt held the role in 2013, and led the offense to a banner year in which he was named the NFL Assistant Coach of the Year. Meanwhile, the team filled four other vacancies. Giff Smith was named defensive line coach after holding that position the past five seasons with the Tennessee Titans and Buffalo Bills. Craig Aukerman was promoted to special teams coordinator while Nick Sirianni shifts over to wide receivers coach and Shane Steichan was named quarterbacks coach.
January 14- Jeff Davidson was named the team's new offensive line coach, bringing 21 years of coaching experience to the Bolts. He spent the last five seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, and before then served as offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers where he worked with Head Coach Mike McCoy. Davidson's trademark has been an ability to run the ball, which has been a staple wherever he's coached.
January 12- The first new addition to the 2016 coaching staff was announced on Tuesday as former Jacksonville Jaguars Defensive Coordinator Bob Babich will take over as linebackers coach. He spent the past three seasons with the Jaguars after nine years with the Chicago Bears, and has guided Pro Bowlers such as Brian Urlacher, Lance Briggs and Paul Posluszny. Babich replaces Mike Nolan, who has decided to pursue other opportunities. Later in the day, the team announced they've agreed to terms with ILB Dexter McCoil, who made a name for himself over two standout seasons in the CFL.
January 8-General Manager Tom Telesco announced at his annual end of the season press conference that the Chargers reached a contract extension with Head Coach Mike McCoy. The previous deal was set to run through the 2016 season, but now extends through 2017.
January 5-The Chargers signed three more players to reserve/futures contracts on Tuesday, bringing back WR Torrence Allen, G Michael Huey and P Kasey Redfern. Allen spent all of 2014 on the practice squad after initially joining the team as an undrafted free agent out of West Texas A&M, but spent the majority of last season on IR after sustaining a foot injury in the preseason. Huey served four stints on the practice squad in 2015 while Redfern was a member for two weeks late in December.
January 4-With the 2015 season officially in the books, the Bolts signed six players from their practice squad to Reserve/Futures contracts. They include WR Isaiah Burse, CB Richard Crawford, DE Ben Gardner, DT Chuka Ndulue, TE Tim Semisch and QB Brad Sorensen. Meanwhile, the team announced that six coaches would not return in 2016, including Offensive Coordinator Frank Reich, Offensive Line Coach Joe D'Alessandris, Tight Ends Coach Pete Metzelaars, Wide Receivers Coach Fred Graves, Defensive Line Coach Don Johnson and Assistant Offensive Line Coach Andrew Dees.
January 2-The Chargers waived WR Torrence Allen and G Ben Beckwith off of Injured Reserve. Both players sustained injuries during training camp and spent the majority of the 2015 campaign on IR.
