Antonio Gates is the GOAT when it comes to the tight end position.
To mark Gates’ induction in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the Chargers are celebrating with a goat.
Yes, an actual goat.
Meet 'Gatesy the Goat,' who was named after the legendary Bolts tight end.
Gatesy, who is based at the San Diego Animal Sanctuary and Farm, is a black Pygmy/Nigerian Dwarf goat who is around nine years old.
The sanctuary described Gatesy as "sweet, friendly, gentle, affectionate, respectful and loved by everyone who comes in contact with him."
While Antonio Gates is known as a special person off the field, we're not sure NFL defenders would say the same about him in between the white lines.
Gates caught 116 touchdowns, good for an NFL record for tight ends and the seventh-most in NFL history.
An eight-time Pro Bowler and five-time All-Pro (including a trio of First-Team selections), Gates redefined the tight end position and paved the way for modern players to be focal points on offense.
Gates also holds all-time Chargers records with 955 receptions for 11,841 yards and those 116 touchdowns.
Gatesy might enjoy eating grass more than playing football on it, but both Gates the Hall of Famer and Gatesy the goat are special parts of Chargers history.
Keep an eye out, too, as opportunities to meet Gatesy the goat will be announced in the future.
