Why Jim Harbaugh Was Starstruck by Bill Belichick on a Recent Podcast

Harbaugh Buzz

Jim Harbaugh was in awe on Monday.

Harbaugh joined the "Let's Go" podcast with Jim Gray and Bill Belichick, and the Chargers Head Coach couldn't believe he was chatting with the latter.

"You're the GOAT. The greatest of all time. And you've lapped the field," Harbaugh said to Belichick, who recently accepted the head coaching job at North Carolina.

Harbaugh later added: "I don't get starstruck by too many people, Coach, but I've always had that feeling around you. It's an honor and a pleasure to be able to talk to you as a great admirer of everything you've done. Excited to see all the great things you're going to do at UNC. It's really cool."

Belichick had plenty of praise for Harbaugh's squad, too, noting that they are tough to play against and always seem to raise the game in the fourth quarter.

"What you're saying there just resonates so much because that's the kind of team our team has been," Harbaugh said. "Our guys have played their best when their best is needed most."

He also gave a shout out to the Chargers special teams group, most notable kicker Cameron Dicker.

"It's good to have a good kicker … you've got one now. It's a good feeling to have that when you need those last couple points, you can send a guy out there you really feel confident in," Belichick said. "You've got a really good club in the bag there when you need it."

Harbaugh, who spent the past nine seasons at Michigan, is now back in the NFL and has the Chargers at 10-6 and in the playoffs.

Belichick, who has 333 combined NFL wins in the regular season and playoffs, is slated to be a college head coach for the first time in his career.

"You like being in college, you like being in the pros. I just like coaching. I just like being a part of a ball team," Harbaugh said. "It's our ball team and we can make it the best ball team we've ever been on, if we want to."

As for Harbaugh's current role, he was asked how the Chargers will handle the possibility of resting starters in Week 18 if they are potentially locked into the No. 6 seed.

"Play to win," Harbaugh said. "We're going to be playing to win at all times. That never changes."
