Jim Harbaugh is back in the NFL ... and has brought his one-of-a-kind reputation with him.
The Chargers Head Coach has his own sense of humor and a unique personality, but he's also brought a dogged worth ethic to the Bolts in recent months.
But with Chargers Training Camp less than two weeks away, it's clear the league views Harbaugh as an elite coach.
Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports recently compiled his **annual ranking of all 32 head coaches** and slotted Harbaugh in the No. 7 spot despite the fact he coached in college for the past nine seasons.
Benjamin wrote:
On one hand, Harbaugh's been out of the NFL for a decade, and, in fact, has just four seasons of pro head-coaching experience under his belt. On the other, he's been an undisputed victor at every spot, with 16 winning seasons in 20 years as a head man, including three NFC title games and a Super Bowl appearance during his San Francisco 49ers days. L.A. is bound to be more disciplined under his watch.
Harbaugh compiled as 44-19-1 record from 2011-2014 with San Francisco and led the 49ers to three straight NFC title games to begin his tenure.
He also has a 5-3 career playoff record with one Super Bowl appearance, where he lost to his brother, John, and the Ravens.
Harbaugh made it known in February that chasing a championship was part of the reason he returned to the NFL.
"I only have so many sands left in the hourglass and I want another shot, I want another shot to be simply known as World Champions," Harbaugh said at his Introductory press conference. "The Lombardi Trophy, that's my mission. Happy, and grateful, to have this opportunity."
Harbaugh's impact was already felt by the Bolts during the offseason program, something that should only continue during training camp and the 2024 season.
"Working hard, pushing the guys and the relationship has been amazing," Derwin James, Jr. said of Harbaugh last month. "Every day he's been pushing us. He's the most powerful leader I've seen."
Justin Herbert added: "He's a competitor. He's done such a great job taking this team and getting them to where he wants them to go. He's won wherever he's [been]. He's a guy that everyone wants to follow and play for. Really excited to get to play for him."
