What You Need to Know About the 2025 NFL Trade Deadline

Here's how the Chargers could approach the 2025 NFL Trade Deadline in November

TD

The 2025 NFL trade deadline is quickly approaching.

Here's what you need to know about this year's trade deadline:

When is the 2025 NFL trade deadline?

The trade deadline is on November 4 at 1 p.m. (PT).

While teams can certainly make a trade before then, all trades must be submitted to the league by 1 p.m. (PT) on Tuesday afternoon.

Is the trade deadline normally then?

It is now.

In previous years, the trade deadline landed on the Tuesday after Week 8.

But NFL owners voted at the 2024 Annual League Meting to push the deadline to after Week 9.

As a result, the trade deadline now typically falls during the first week of November.

Will the Chargers make a trade?

They already have.

The Chargers on Tuesday announced a deal where they acquired edge rusher Odafe Oweh and a 2027 seventh-round pick in a trade the Ravens in exchange for safety Alohi Gilman and a 2026 fifth-round pick.

The move gives the Bolts extra pass rush depth, and while Gilman's departure is tough, the Chargers are well equipped to handle it with Derwin James, Jr., Elijah Molden and Tony Jefferson still on the roster.

The deal was another example of Chargers General Manager Joe Hortiz's willingness to make trades since he arrived, whether it was the addition of Elijah Molden last training camp or picking up tackle Austin Deculus before the 2025 season began.

Hortiz has also preached the importance of consistently looking to add talent to the roster 365 days a year.

What draft picks do the Bolts have?

While the Chargers could trade a player if they made a deal, teams can also give up draft compensation as a return.

The Bolts currently have five total picks in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Another note: teams cannot trade compensatory picks before they are awarded.

So while the Chargers could end up getting a comp pick in the spring for a departed free agent — such as cornerback Kristian Fulton or defensive tackle Poona Ford — they can't deal that pick until the league finalizes comp picks before the 2026 NFL Draft.
