What You Need to Know About the 2024 NFL Trade Deadline

Here's how the Chargers could approach next week's trade deadline

TD

The 2024 NFL trade deadline is quickly approaching.

Here's what you need to know about this year's trade deadline:

When is the 2024 trade deadline?

The trade deadline is on Tuesday at 1 p.m. (PT).

While teams can certainly make a trade before then, and some already have, all trades must be submitted to the league by 1 p.m. (PT) on Tuesday afternoon.

Wait, is that later than normal?

Yes. In previous years, the trade deadline landed on the Tuesday after Week 8.

But NFL owners voted at the Annual League Meting in March to push the deadline to after Week 9.

The Steelers submitted the change to be voted upon.

Will the Chargers make a trade?

It remains to be seen.

Chargers General Manager Joe Hortiz has already showed a willingness to make trades as he acquired Elijah Molden and Taylor Heinicke just before the season began.

Hortiz, from the moment he was hired, has also stressed the importance of consistently looking to add talent to the roster 365 days a year.

What draft picks do the Bolts have?

While the Chargers could trade a player if they made a deal, teams can also give up draft compensation as a return.

The Bolts currently have eight total selections in the 2025 NFL Draft, a list that can be found here.

Another note: teams cannot trade compensatory picks before they are awarded.

So while the Bolts could end up getting a comp pick in the spring for a departed free agent such as linebacker Kenneth Murray, Jr., who signed with Tennessee, they can't deal that pick until the league finalizes comp picks before the 2025 NFL Draft.

What trades have already taken place?

With the trade deadline a few days away, a handful of deals have already taken place around the league.

A pair of the most notable deals have involved big-name wide receivers.

The Jets acquired wide receiver Davante Adams from the Raiders in exchange for a 2025 conditional third-round pick.

The Bills also added to the offense in wide receiver Amari Cooper (and 2025 sixth-round pick) that sent a 2025 third-round pick and 2026 seventh-round pick to the Browns.

The Vikings on Wednesday acquired tackle Cam Robinson from the Jaguars. Minnesota also acquired a 2026 conditional seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2026 conditional fifth-round pick. The Vikings also added running back Cam Akers and a 2026 conditional seventh-round pick from the Texans earlier in the month for a 2026 conditional sixth-round pick.

The Ravens added wide receiver Diontae Johnson and a 2025 sixth-round pick from the Panthers in exchange for a 2025 fifth-round pick.

The Chiefs brought in edge rusher Josh Uche from the Patriots in exchange for a 2026 sixth-rounder, and also added wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from the Titans for a 2025 conditional fifth-round draft pick.
