Quick Observations from the 24-10 Loss to the Chiefs

The Los Angeles Chargers fell to 0-3 on the season after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs, 24-10.

Stat of the Game:

Melvin Ingram had a career-high three sacks on the day.  Number 54 has 5.5 on the season.

Play of the Game:

On first down from the Chiefs' 11-yard line, Melvin Gordon showed patience as he took the handoff from Philip Rivers out of shotgun.  Running around the right tackle, and aided by an impressive block from Hunter Henry, the running back tiptoed along the sideline and into the end zone for his third TD of the season.

Turning Point:

Facing a 4th-and-14 from their own 39 in the fourth quarter, the Chiefs lined up in punt formation, but it was a fake.  Chris McCain sniffed it out and stopped Albert Wilson for a loss of four setting the Bolts offense up at the KC 35.  However, the team went three-and-out in what was their best chance of many to tie the game.

It Was Over When:

With the team still down one score, the Chargers defense needed a stop as the Chiefs faced a 3rd-and-1 with 2:14 left in the game.  Unfortunately, Kareem Hunt rushed up the middle for two yards to keep the drive alive.  On the next play, Hunt rushed off right guard for a 69-yard touchdown to make it a two-score game and seal the loss.

Bolt Quotebook

"You might say we're the same old Chargers, and right now, we are.  Until we prove it differently, we are. We've got to go back to work, and we've got to get better as coaches and players." – Head Coach Anthony Lynn

* "I feel like at this point in time, the defense is on, the offense is off.  The offense is on, the defense is off.  Offense (and) defense are on and special teams is off.  All three phases are just not on the same page, and we have to find a way to figure that out." – RB Melvin Gordon*

"We didn't get the win.  That's what it all boils down to." – DE Melvin Ingram

"I really was just never in any kind of groove all day.  Shoot, anytime a quarterback plays that poorly, it is going to be tough to win." – QB Philip Rivers
