Chargers Fall to Ravens on Monday Night Football

Recap W12

The Bolts dropped to 7-4 on the season with a 30-23 loss to Baltimore.

Here is a game recap from Week 12.

First Quarter

Justin Herbert, Derwin James, Bradley Bozeman, Rashawn Slater and Khalil Mack were the Chargers captains. The Ravens won the toss and elected to defer. The Chargers offense took the field first and quickly crossed midfield. Herbert later capped off the drive with a 5-yard touchdown run for an early lead. The Bolts showed incredible balance with 35 passing yards and 35 rushing yards on the opening scoring drive.

The Chargers defense started fast as Baltimore punted on its opening possession. The Ravens were called for a personal foul on first down and couldn't overcome third-and-20 as Mack brought pressure on Lamar Jackson. The Bolts were then hampered by a penalty of their own as a holding call eventually forced them to punt on their second possession. The Chargers defense then forced Baltimore into a three-and-out as Derius Davis' 19-yard return set the Bolts up at their own 36. The Bolts relied on a pair of J.K. Dobbins' runs to cross into Ravens territory as the quarter came to a close.

Second Quarter

The Chargers faced fourth-and-1 early at the Ravens 30-yard line in the quarter. The Bolts kept the offense on the field and converted as Gus Edwards powered ahead for three yards. But the drive stalled just outside of the red zone as Cameron Dicker came on for a 42-yard field goal that put the Bolts up 10-0. Baltimore and running back Derrick Henry responded with a pair of runs to get into Chargers territory before he ran the Ravens into the red zone. Jackson finished off the drive with a 10-yard touchdown run to cut the Bolts lead to 10-7.

The Bolts nearly reached midfield but a holding call brought up third-and-12 from their own 39 as Herbert's pass to Ladd McConkey was short of the sticks. JK Scott's punt was downed at the 7-yard line as the Ravens took over with 3:54 left in the quarter. The Chargers defense battled back by stopping Henry on third-and-1 but the Ravens converted on a fourth-and-1 run from their own 16. The Bolts eventually gave up a 40-yard touchdown pass late in the quarter and trailed 14-10. But Herbert moved the Bolts into field goal range as Dicker attempted a 52-yard field goal on the final play of the half. His kick was good as the Chargers trailed 14-13 at halftime.

Third Quarter

The Ravens began the second half with the ball. The Chargers allowed a pair of third-and-longs before the defense made a stop on third-and-10 to force a field goal. Justin Tucker's 45-yard try was good as the Bolts trailed 17-13 with just over nine minutes left in the third quarter. The Bolts responded with a field goal drive of their own as Dicker hit another 52-yarder to cut the deficit to 17-16 with just over four minutes left in the third quarter. Baltimore put together a drive and faced fourth-and-1 at the Bolts 25 as the quarter came to an end.

Fourth Quarter

The Ravens converted on fourth-and-1 to open the quarter. Baltimore added to its lead with a 6-yard touchdown catch on third-and-goal from the 6. The Ravens went for the 2point play but were unsuccessful as the Bolts trailed 23-16 with 12:32 left in regulation. The Chargers faced third-and-6 but couldn't convert and were forced to punt it away. The Ravens hit on a 51-yard touchdown midway through the fourth quarter to take a two-score lead as the Bolts trailed 30-16. The Chargers quickly moved into Baltimore territory but the drive stalled and the Chargers punted it away. The Bolts forced a Baltimore punt and reached the red zone in the final minute of play. Edwards ran in a 1-yard touchdown run with 46 seconds left as the Bolts cut the deficit to 30-23. The Ravens recovered the ensuing onside kick and ran out the clock. The Bolts dropped to 7-4 and will head to Atlanta in Week 13 for the first of back-to-back road games.
