Camp Report: Mack, Henley Lead Strong Defensive Day

DHCR

The Bolts went without pads Tuesday for a 90-plus minute session in El Segundo.

The Chargers are slated to practice Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. before a 4 p.m. practice on Thursday.

Here is the Chargers Camp Report from Tuesday's practice:

1. Defense leads the way

The defensive highlights were aplenty Tuesday afternoon at The Bolt.

The first-team unit flashed right away in 11-on-11 drills when Daiyan Henley and Denzel Perryman teamed up on a tackle for loss on the first play of a drill.

Khalil Mack and Tre'Mon Morris-Brash later added sacks before rookie safety Thomas Harper nabbed an interception on a deep pass down the middle from Luis Perez.

Henley later made his presence felt again with an interception off Easton Stick on a play that fired up the entire defensive sideline.

The defense's strong effort continued in a red-zone, 7-on-7 drill when Asante Samuel, Jr. notched a pass breakup.

The Bolts later went back to team drills when Tuli Tuipulotu notched a pair of sacks and Mack nearly had an interception at the line of scrimmage.

2. Stick leads late 2-minute drill

Stick and the offense did have some bright spots Tuesday.

The quarterback tossed a pair of touchdowns in the red-zone, 7-on-7 drill, both of which went to tight ends.

Donald Parham, Jr. caught a 15-yard score up the seam when he managed to get both feet down in the back of the end zone.

Will Dissly later made almost exactly the same play as he secured the catch and managed to get his toes down for the score.

Stick's group later led a successful 2-minute drill that ended in points.

The offense began at the opposing 40-yard line with 40 seconds remaining.

The Chargers initially moved the chains on a third-and-short run before Stick hit Joshua Palmer for a first down.

Stick spiked the ball to stop the clock before finding Ladd McConkey out of bounds with eight seconds left.

Cameron Dicker came on for a 45-yard field goal and knocked it down the middle to complete the successful sequence.

3. Dicker perfect on the day

Speaking of Dicker, he was perfect again Tuesday by making all seven kicks in team drills.

Moments after his go-ahead kick in the 2-minute warning, Dicker came onto the field for a special teams period when he knocked in six straight field goals that looked to range between 45 and 54 yards out.

Dicker, who hit a 58-yard field goal in Saturday's preseason opener against Seattle, is now 42 of 45 on field goals in team drills throughout camp.
