Rookie linebacker Drue Tranquill was a guest on Thursday's episode of Chargers Weekly, the official podcast of the team.
It's been a life-changing 30 days for Tranquill, whom Los Angeles selected in the fourth round of April's NFL Draft. After moving cross-country with his wife Jackie, who was pregnant with their first child, the two became parents last Friday to a baby boy, Elijah James.
Tranquill, 23, was well aware that his first month as a pro would be markedly busier than his rookie counterparts.
"We knew it was coming," he said. "So, the two men in the truck got the U-Haul out here. We flew out here, found a place [and] got moved in. Rookie minicamp and then we start OTAs, and then I get the call [last] Thursday. We're going to the hospital and now the baby's here, I'm a dad.
"It's just a lot happening at once, but it's my Jordan year so I guess you gotta do it big, right?"
Listen to the entire interview with Tranquill (21:20 mark). Among the topics: working in an experienced linebackers room, playing at Notre Dame, inheriting his father's work ethic, watching quarterback Philip Rivers work at the line of scrimmage, and more.
NFL.com's Marc Sessler also joined this week's episode to break down the three Chargers defenders who made his All-Under-25 Team (:40 mark).
Chargers Weekly is available on Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, TuneIn, Google Play, YouTube and the official Chargers app. A five-star rating/review is appreciated and will help spread the word to other fans this offseason.
