If you plan on being downtown this weekend for Comic-Con, take a break from the superheroes and pop culture and meet Kenny Wiggins while discovering his hat and clothing line, Gafton.
The offensive lineman is setting up a hat pop up shop at Bespoke in downtown San Diego on Saturday at 4pm.
"It's fun to get out there," Wiggins said. "Fans can come get to know me and some other Chargers players, come get some autographs and get to know us as people. We've done some pop up events like one at Fresno State, but this is our first time doing one in San Diego. We've been in a couple stores in San Diego so far, and Bespoke is going to be really excited to have us. It's about getting out there and getting more of a presence in the San Diego community."
While he's excited to showcase his product, Wiggins said he's most thrilled about bringing it directly to Chargers fans in America's Finest City.
"I love San Diego and I always tell everybody it's the greatest city in America. It's a lot of fun and I lived downtown last year during the season…right across the street from the store. (I) would walk by thinking, 'This would be the perfect store for Gafton.' So when I approached them with the opportunity, they jumped on board and ran with it."
Wiggins will have men's snapback hats for purchase along with brand new women's hats that will make their debut on Saturday.
Billed as a casual lifestyle brand, Gafton was created by Wiggins and Andrew Gardner, his best friend from high school, over a year ago as their way of sharing apparel and accessory items they like with the public. Though the brand's name means a lot to Wiggins, its sentimental value is something he believes will resonate with fans.
"It's supposed to bring back a good feeling. Our story is that we grew up on Gafton Court and we had great times and became family there. Everybody has a 'Gafton Court.' Everybody has a street or (place like) Grandma's house or a park that they remember when they were kids. That was our memory and that's what we want to show and the message we want to spread. Every time we see the G (logo), it reminds us of a simpler time."
