Top 19 Photos from the 2019 Season
Take a look at the best photos from the Bolts' 2019 campaign through the lens of team photographer, Mike Nowak, manager of photography, Ty Nowell, and seasonal photographer, C. Morgan Engel.

Monday Night Under the Lights – It was very cool to photograph a night training camp practice because the lighting is completely different. The sepia sky contrasted with the shadowy foreground made for a lot of great images from the evening. - Mike Nowak/Los Angeles Chargers

Get Hyped – One of the most fun moments of gameday is the pregame locker room scene where guys are getting each other hyped up for the game. The expressions on Melvin Ingram and Thomas Davis' faces tell you all you need to know about how ready they were to kick off the 2019 season. - Mike Nowak/Los Angeles Chargers

Hat Trick – This shot after one of Austin Ekeler's three scores from the season opener shows how excited his teammates were for him. I love how Hunter Henry is even 'playing guitar' like Ekeler does in his TD celebrations. - Mike Nowak/Los Angeles Chargers

High Hurdle – The game of football is played at such a high speed, it's photos like these that capture the true athleticism of the players on the field. The height Ekeler got on this hurdle is incredible. - Mike Nowak/Los Angeles Chargers

Ekeler Embrace - After his monster game that led the Chargers to a Week 1 OT win, I followed Austin Ekeler over to the stands where he found his mother. Austin's mom is a witness to his underdog like journey into the NFL. I love this moment because it captures a bond that is rarely seen on a football field. - C. Morgan Engel/Los Angeles Chargers

#Blessed – It's not every day you see a group of nuns attending a football game, but this photo from Detroit was one of the most fun images from the season. I could explain more, but Philip Rivers standing in front of members of the Dominican Sisters of Mary from Ann Arbor, MI truly speaks for itself. - Mike Nowak/Los Angeles Chargers

Football is Family – That phrase gets thrown around a lot, but it's literal when you have Watt brothers sharing the field like these two did in Week 3. It's special to capture moments like these knowing that at the end of the day, regardless of it's a win or loss for their teams, Derek and J.J. will always have each other. - Mike Nowak/Los Angeles Chargers

Slayer x LT - Keenan Allen celebrated this Week 3 touchdown catch by paying tribute to LaDainian Tomlinson with his iconic celebration. LT witnessed the show of respect by Allen in real time, as he was standing next to me in that same end zone. After this shot, the two Charger legends met in the corner of the end zone to celebrate together. It's an important moment between two greats and I was in the right place to capture it. - C. Morgan Engel/Los Angeles Chargers

On the Ground - Joey Bosa spent a lot of time in the backfield in Nashville. To open the second half he teamed up with Damion Square to force the ball to the ground before depositing the quarterback there as well. - Ty Nowell/Los Angeles Chargers

Confirmation Outburst - After standing up the QB sneak attempt on fourth and inches, an exhausted Joey Bosa made his way to the bench while the chain gang headed out onto the field. I kept the lens locked on him as he looked up at the jumbotron for the results, capturing a rare outburst of emotion when the late game stop was confirmed. - Ty Nowell/Los Angeles Chargers

Single Passage - It's a short but narrow walk to the field at Chicago's historic Soldier Field. The slim corridor leaves just enough space for a single player to walk through, framing them perfectly. The detail I liked most in this photo is Thomas Davis' Walter Payton Man of the Year patch on display in the building that Sweetness built his legacy. - Ty Nowell/Los Angeles Chargers

TOUCH'D - The videoboard animation flashing 'touchdown' just as Melvin Gordon and Derek Watt emerged from the shadows celebrating this Week 9 score was stroke of luck that made this one of my favorites of the season. - Ty Nowell/Los Angeles Chargers

Final Game in the Black Hole – I've shot more than 20 Chargers games in Oakland, so it felt fitting to capture this pregame moment one final time to bid farewell to the Chargers-Raiders rivalry in the Black Hole. - Mike Nowak/Los Angeles Chargers

6,621' – That's how high Falcon Stadium at Air Force Academy is above sea level. The team spent six days in Colorado Springs training for the elevation of Mexico City, and the mountains and swirling skies that went on for miles made it an ideal shooting location. - Mike Nowak/Los Angeles Chargers

Conociendo el Azteca - Mexico's national stadium casts an imposing figure and as the teams walked through the crowd of 76,252 to the hallowed ground of the Azteca you got an idea of just how big the venue is in scale and historical significance. - Ty Nowell/Los Angeles Chargers

Pregame Prayer – Here's an intimate look at the team's pregame prayer before their Week 13 game. It's a moment I can't always shoot because of space, but because this room was so large, it was cool to be able to capture this normally private moment. - Mike Nowak/Los Angeles Chargers

One-Handed Snag – Much like the Ekeler hurdling photo, this one of Mike Williams making a one-handed catch, on 4th-and-11 mind you, was a great shot to reflect on after watching the play live. Looking back at his positioning and extension, you knew he was going to come down with this catch. - Mike Nowak/Los Angeles Chargers

Derwin's Holler - Derwin James reacts to smelling salts seconds before kickoff against the Vikings. When I noticed that Derwin was going to have a strong reaction, I kneeled down in front of him and waited. I always appreciate the players allowing me into their space so I can capture intimate moments. - C. Morgan Engel/Los Angeles Chargers

Reciprocal Appreciation - Philip Rivers is known to be as fierce a competitor on the field as anyone, while remaining one of the most humble off it. As the final seconds ticked away on the 2019 season #17 obliged a request from a fan that heckled him for a decade in KC, giving him his gloves and sharing a moment of mutual respect. - Ty Nowell/Los Angeles Chargers
