Damon Mitchell begins his sixth season as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Los Angeles Chargers and his 24th season overall with the organization.
Mitchell began his athletic training career as a season intern for the Philadelphia Eagles in 1998. He joined the Chargers in 1999 in the same capacity and was hired full-time in 2001. From 2001 to his promotion as Head Athletic Trainer in 2017, Mitchell served as an assistant athletic trainer for the team.
As the Head Athletic Trainer, Mitchell supervises all aspects of the medical department, including the general healthcare of every athlete in the organization. On top of the welfare of the athletes, Mitchell consults with team executives on the hiring of all team physicians and ancillary medical staff. Over the last two seasons, he has been an integral part of the organization's efforts in infection control for the health and wellness of players and staff.
Mitchell was recently appointed Chairperson of Membership Services by the president of the Professional Football Athletic Trainers Society (PFATS).
Mitchell earned a degree in health education with an emphasis in athletic training in 2001 from Morgan State University. He has been a member of the National Athletic Trainer Association (NATA) since 1997.
Mitchell and his wife, Tahira, have two sons named Mehki and Caleb.
