Marco Zucconi begins his first season as the Director of Player Health, Wellness & Performance for the Los Angeles Chargers after spending five seasons as an assistant athletic trainer and another six seasons as an associate athletic trainer for the club. In all, 2023 will be Zucconi's 12th season with the Bolts.
Zucconi began his athletic training career as an assistant athletic trainer and rehabilitation coordinator for the University of Central Florida in 2011. He joined the Chargers in 2012 in the same capacity. He then was promoted to associate athletic trainer in 2017 before his recent promotion to Director of Player Health, Wellness & Performance.
As the Director of Player Health, Wellness & Performance, Zucconi oversees all aspects of the medical operations, as well as developing, coordinating and administering a player-centric health care model to allow players to perform at their highest levels. He is the lead on integrating sports science technologies into all aspects of player health and safety.
Zucconi recently won the 2023 Professional Football Athletic Trainers Society (PFATS) Tim Davey AFC Assistant Athletic Trainer of the Year Award for his work with the Bolts during the 2022 season. Among his numerous certifications include Performance Enhancement Specialist from the National Academy of Sports Medicine.
In 2008, Zucconi earned a degree in exercise and nutritional science with an emphasis in athletic training from San Diego State University before going on to earn a master's degree in sports and fitness with an emphasis in sports leadership and coaching in 2010 from the University of Central Florida.
Zucconi and his wife, Kimberly, have three children.
