The Chargers on Monday announced they have agreed on a contract extension with Teair Tart.
The defensive lineman was one of the most unheralded additions in 2024 when Chargers General Manager Joe Hortiz added Tart to the roster in mid-August as a free agent.
Tart promptly rewarded the Bolts by being a tough and consistent player in the trenches, an area Hortiz and Chargers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh see as a key to overall team success.
Tart tallied 29 total tackles (15 solo) with five tackles for loss, a sack, one interception, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, two passes defended and five QB hits in 17 games.
His overall Pro Football Focus grade of 78.1 ranked 12th among all defensive tackles with at least 300 snaps.
Tart logged 348 snaps on defense in 2024, a number that might increase if the Chargers view him as a key figure along the defensive line.
With the position group potentially getting revamped this offseason, the Bolts view Tart as an integral piece up front.
Chargers Defensive Coordinator Jesse Minter and defensive line coach Mike Elston worked wonders with Tart in 2024.
The hope is that he can take his game to another level in 2025 as the Chargers aim for more team success on that side of the ball.
Defensive tackle Teair Tart has recorded 108 career tackles and 3.5 sacks. In the 2024 season, he played in 17 games.
