Khalil Mack Ranked No. 29 on NFL's Top 100 List

Mack top 100

As great as Khalil Mack has been in his future Hall of Fame career thus far, he was arguably never as productive as he was during the 2023 season.

Mack notched an incredible 17.0 sacks (a career-high that tied Bolts single-season record) while adding 21 tackles for loss and forced five fumbles.

The veteran outside linebacker's career season landed him at No. 29 in the NFL's Top 100 list, his second straight year making the list and his highest ranking since 2021.

And to some in the NFL, like former Bills edge rusher Shaq Lawson, Mack was the top player in the league last season.

"Number one right now, I'm always going to go defensive player," Lawson said. "So I went Khalil Mack number one."

"He put me in mind of like Reggie White," Lawson continued. "That type of style of player, how he power rushes. He's stronger than pretty much everybody he's going against.

"He's still looking like the younger Khalil Mack when he first got in," Lawson added.

The part of Mack's season that gets lost is that he went the first three weeks of the regular season without a sack.

That all changed in when the Raiders entered SoFi in early October.

"Week 4, he whooped me," former Raiders and now Giants guard Jermaine Eluemunor said.

Mack put on a clinic against his former team by setting a Chargers single-game record with 6.0 sacks that afternoon.

"If your feet aren't where they need to be and your hands aren't where they need to be and you miss with your hands, he's just going to drive you into the right into the quarterback and embarrass you," Eluemunor said.

"A guy like that at his age, still doing what he's doing and doing it at the highest level possible is ridiculous," Eluemunor added.

What's made Mack most impressive to his NFL peers is not only can he get it done in pass rushing situations, but he is just as effective in the running game.

According to Pro Football Focus, Mack had the third highest run defense grade (90.8) and run stops (33) among edge rushers last year.

It's why the veteran continues to be one of the biggest problems for opposing offenses.

"People always talk about Khalil from the standpoint of rushing the passer and sacks, and that's great, he does that and that's why he's so highly paid," Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins said. "But his strength against the run is really what offensive linemen and tight ends comment about. His ability to set the edge.

"A lot of pass rushers only want to rush the passer and the minute it's a run play, they're average to out of the game," Cousins added. "In Khalil's case, he's All-Pro against the run just like he is against the pass."
