The Bolts now know who the opposing quarterback will be in Week 1.
Raiders Head Coach Antonio Pierce announced Sunday that Las Vegas will go with veteran Gardner Minshew II as its starting quarterback.
Pierce said he consulted with Raiders General Manager Tom Telesco and Raiders Offensive Coordinator Luke Getsy before naming Minshew the starter. Minshew had been battling second-year quarterback Aidan O'Connell for the starting gig.
"Myself, Telesco and Luke Getsy discussed it this morning," Pierce said. "A lot of things went into it. It wasn't based off of last night. There's a lot of factors. We feel like Gardner gives us the best opportunity to get off to a fast start."
The Chargers and Raiders kick off the 2024 season at 1:05 p.m. (PT) on September 8 from SoFi Stadium.
Minshew, a 2019 sixth-round pick by the Jaguars, is entering his sixth season in the league.
He spent the 2023 season in Indianapolis where he threw for 3,305 yards with 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions for an 84.6 passer rating.
Week 1 will be Minshew's third career start against the Chargers, with the previous two coming during his time in Jacksonville.
