The Chargers lead 24-14 at halftime against the New Orleans Saints. Here are the top three takeaways from the first half.
- Rivers Rolling -Philip Rivers had a strong first half, going 14-for-17 for 199 yards and two touchdowns for a 154.7 passer rating. He's completed a pass to five different receivers.
- Rookies Rise– Injuries to Antonio Gates and Manti Te'o meant an increased role for Hunter Henry and Jatavis Brown, and both rookies stepped up. Henry has two catches for 36 yards and his first career touchdown, while Brown is tied with a team-high five tackles thus far.
3. Third Down Defense Struggles– San Diego struggled to get the Saints off the field on third down as New Orleans was 7-for-9 in the first half. They converted both attempts on their opening touchdown drive, and later made three including a four-yard TD pass from Drew Brees to John Kuhn on 3rd-and-3.
