Why Vince Vaughn Showed Up to Chargers Practice on Friday

VV1

The Chargers are 6-3 and starting to gain more and more national attention these days.

The latest example was a special guest at Friday's practice.

Vince Vaughn, the actor and comedian who starred in movies such as Wedding Crashers, Old School and Dodgeball, showed up to The Bolt on check in on the Chargers.

"I've known Jimmy for years," Vaughn told Chargers.com about Chargers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh. "What a heck of a guy and a great coach. It's exciting to see what the Chargers have been doing and exciting to have him here in this neck of the woods.

"I've been watching them play and they got a great group," Vaughn added.

Harbaugh said after practice that he first met Vaughn over a dozen years ago when the actor was shooting a movie up in the Bay Area.

The two have stayed in touch and the two now have children in the same school and youth football league.

Harbaugh said Friday he's a "huge fan" of Vaughn and loves "every single one" of his movies.

"Everybody loves him," Harbaugh said. "Fellas love him. Hilarious and funny and a great guy.

"And he knows sports, knows football," Harbaugh said. "He knows our team inside and out. Great to have him out here today."

Vaughn, who grew up just outside of Chicago, said he watched Harbaugh play for the Bears to begin his NFL career.

"Yeah, as a kid, I watched him when he played quarterback," Vaughn said. "He did a great job there [in Chicago].

"And then what an unbelievable story as a coach," Vaughn added. "Everywhere he's gone — both in college and then in the pros — now to see him having this kind of success here [is great]."

Harbaugh put Vaughn on the spot Friday by asking him to give a spontaneous post-practice speech to the team.

"I wasn't prepared for it," Vaughn said with a laugh. "So, I just kind of said what I felt, which was, 'You guys don't need a pep talk.'

"They've been winning in a lot of different ways and have been solving everything that has come up in front of them," Vaughn added. "So, I just told them to keep rolling and keep having fun."

The Bolts host the Bengals in Week 11 on Sunday Night Football.
