Where is Justin Herbert in PFF's 2024 QB Rankings?

Herbert Buzz 05.30

Justin Herbert continues to earn praise as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.

Trevor Sikkema of Pro Football Focus recently compiled his list of all 32 starters in the league — and the Chargers quarterback rounded out the top five.

Herbert was the No. 5 quarterback in Sikkema's rankings and sat atop Tier 3, labeled as the "Postseason-Caliber QBs".

Even with Herbert missing the final four games of last season due to injury, the PFF analyst pointed to Herbert showcasing what he can do pushing the ball down the field and staying calm under pressure and the reason for his top five finish.

Sikkema wrote:

2023 wasn't Herbert's best season from an efficiency standpoint — plus he missed the final four games due to injury — but he did what many of us have been asking for the last few years: push the ball more. He posted a 5.0% big-time throw rate, his highest since his rookie year, and recorded an average target depth of more than 8.0 yards downfield for the first time in his career.

Despite some criticisms that he can't singlehandedly will his team to postseason success (which is silly), Herbert remains one of the most talented quarterbacks in the league. His 68.9 passing grade under pressure last season ranked third, behind Dak Prescott and Lamar Jackson.

Herbert threw for 3,134 yards and 20 touchdowns in 13 games and added 228 rushing yards and three scores on the ground, as his arms and legs kept the Bolts offense in it as injuries piled up on offense.

But in 2024, Herbert has a new chance to succeed with Head Coach Jim Harbaugh and Offensive Coordinator Greg Roman, who both hope to keep the quarterback upright and play a physical style of offense on the ground.

With the Bolts franchise quarterback entering Year 5, Herbert could be on the cusp of being in the prime of his career and should continue to show why he remains a top quarterback in the league.
