The Los Angeles Chargers on Tuesday announced they signed quarterback Luis Perez.

Here are five things to know about Perez:

1. Recent time in NFL

The newest member of the Bolts has spent time on NFL rosters before.

Perez signed as an undrafted free agent with the Rams in 2018 and would play in a preseason game, as he spent part of that season on their practice squad.

He also has spent time with the Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles.

2. UFL star

Perez has made his mark in his career so far in spring football.

The quarterback most recently started at quarterback for the United Football League's Arlington Renegades this past spring. He led the UFL in completions (225), passing yards (2,309) and passing touchdowns (18).

And the year prior, as a starter in the XFL, Perez would lead the Renegades to a championship win.

Perez has also played on three other XFL teams throughout his career — the New Jersey Generals, New York Guardians and Los Angeles Wildcats.

3. Decorated D-II career

After transferring to Division II Texas A&M–Commerce, Perez would go on to have quite the run in the Lone Star State.

He redshirted his first year before becoming the starter for his final two years in college, leading the Lions to two NCAA Division II Playoff berths.

His best year came in 2017 when he led the school to their second National Championship in program history.

Perez also earned the Harlon Hill Division II Player of the Year award after throwing the fourth most passing yards by a quarterback in Division II history (4,999).

4. SoCal native

Perez is no stranger to Southern California.

The 29-year-old is a native of San Diego, where he stayed in the area until he transferred to Texas A&M–Commerce.

He would attend and graduate from Otay Ranch High in Chula Vista, and play football at Southwestern College, a junior college.

5. Path to QB

Perez's journey as a player is quite unique.

The quarterback spent some time playing other positions on his high school team, but never played varsity football at Otay Ranch.

After graduating high school, Perez would walk on at Southwestern and work his way up the depth chart before becoming the full-time starter for the school in 2014.
