Los Angeles Chargers Agree to Contract Extension with Teair Tart

The Los Angeles Chargers today agreed to terms on a contract extension with defensive lineman Teair Tart.

Acquired in training camp before the start of last season, Tart emerged as a key contributor on the Los Angeles defensive line, appearing in all 18 contests, including the postseason. He had a sack, an interception, five tackles for loss and 29 tackles (15 solo) on the season, while also forcing and recovering a fumble. Tart was part of a defensive unit that led the NFL in scoring defense (17.7 points per game) and red zone defense (45.0 percent).

A five-year veteran, Tart has started 36-of-64 regular-season games played with the Tennessee Titans, Houston Texans and Los Angeles Chargers, totaling 108 tackles (64 solo), 3.5 sacks, two interceptions, nine passes defensed, 21 tackles for loss, a forced fumble and two recoveries. He initially signed with the Titans as an undrafted free agent in 2020 and had one of his best seasons in 2022, when he started 16 games for Tennessee and set single-season career highs in tackles (34), solo stops (20), sacks (1.5) and passes defensed (six).

Tart finished his collegiate career at Florida International where he totaled 5.5 sacks, 50 tackles (28 solo), 19 tackles for loss and a pair of forced fumbles in 23 games played across two seasons (2018-19). He also spent time playing at ASA College (N.Y.) and Ellsworth Community College before transferring to Florida International.
