Chargers Activate Gus Edwards; Sign Tucker Fisk to Active Roster

The Los Angeles Chargers today activated running back Gus Edwards from Reserve/Injured; Designated for Return and signed tight end Tucker Fisk to the active roster from the practice squad. In addition, the team also elevated cornerback Eli Apple and outside linebacker Caleb Murphy from the practice squad for Sunday's game. The Chargers also signed tight end McCallan Castles to the practice squad.

Edwards appeared in four games (one start) this season for the Chargers, rushing for 113 yards on 38 attempts (3.0 avg.) and adding a two-yard reception. After entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers in 2018, Edwards started 27-of-73 regular-season games for the Baltimore Ravens and Chargers, running for 3,508 yards and 26 touchdowns on 737 attempts (4.8 avg.). He has added 31 receptions for 376 yards (12.1 avg.) in the passing game. In seven career postseason games, Edwards made two starts and totaled 250 yards from scrimmage (222 rushing, 28 receiving).

Edwards played three seasons at the University of Miami (2013-14, '16), missing the 2015 season due to injury, before capping his collegiate career in 2017 at Rutgers. He ran for 713 yards and six touchdowns on 164 attempts (4.3 avg.) in his lone season for the Scarlet Knights. That season, he split the award for the team's Most Valuable Player and added 13 catches for 103 yards (7.9 avg.) and a touchdown grab.

A member of the Bolts practice squad all season after signing with the team in training camp, Fisk previously spent time with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2022, ultimately hauling in a nine-yard catch and appearing in six games (two starts) last year for the Falcons. Fisk started 11-of-37 games over four seasons (2018-21) at Stanford, playing both tight end and defensive end. On offense, Fisk totaled 64 yards and a touchdown on nine receptions (7.1 avg.). Defensively, he posted 15 tackles (eight solo) and a pair of sacks in 2021, winning the Jack Hutson Award, which annually recognizes the team's Defensive Most Valuable Player. Fisk's father, Jason, played defensive tackle for the Bolts from 2002-04.

Apple was elevated for the team's Week 9 win in Cleveland, posting a pair of defensive tackles for the Bolts. For his career, Apple has started 83-of-99 regular-season games and accumulated 380 tackles (312 solo), a half-sack, seven tackles for loss, six interceptions, 60 passes defensed, three forced fumbles and seven recoveries. He has also started 11 playoff games, including Super Bowl LVI and three Conference Championship games, totaling 56 tackles (46 solo), two tackles for loss, a quarterback hit and six passes defensed. He originally entered the NFL as a first-round pick (10th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft by the New York Giants.

Apple played collegiately at Ohio State for three seasons (2012-14), winning the Inaugural 2015 College Football Playoff National Championship with the Buckeyes. A freshman All-American and second-team All-Big Ten selection, he played in 28 games (27 starts) and compiled 86 tackles (56 solo), an interception, nine passes defensed and a fumble recovery.

Murphy entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Ferris State in 2023, signing with the Tennessee Titans. He played in five games for the Titans over the last two years, including a pair of games this season. Over his NFL career, Murphy has posted a solo tackle on defense and a pair of special teams tackles. The Dowagiac, Mich., native was named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Lineman of the Year in 2021 after posting 63 tackles, 14.5 sacks and 21.5 tackles for loss to help Ferris State win the NCAA Division II National Championship. One year later, Murphy set an NCAA single-season record with 25.5 sacks and tied an NCAA record with 39 tackles for loss, leading Ferris State to repeat as NCAA Division II National Champions.
