The Los Angeles Chargers today claimed running back Hassan Haskins off waivers. In a corresponding move, the team waived safety JT Woods. In addition, the Chargers signed 15 players to the practice squad.
Haskins entered the NFL as a fourth-round selection (131st overall) by Tennessee in 2022. As a rookie, he appeared in 15 games, including a start, for the Titans, rushing for 93 yards on 25 attempts (3.7 avg.). Haskins added 11 receptions for 57 yards (5.2 avg.) that season, while contributing on special teams as a return man, totaling 19 kickoff returns for 414 yards (21.8 avg.).
A native of St. Louis, Mo., Haskins is reunited with Head Coach Jim Harbaugh, whom he played under at the University of Michigan from 2018-21. Haskins was a team captain as a senior, going on that year to earn third-team All-America and first-team All-Big Ten honors from The Associated Press as a senior after tying for No. 4 in the nation with 20 rushing touchdowns. Over his career in Ann Arbor, Mich., Haskins appeared in 33 games, recording 2,324 yards and 30 touchdowns on 452 carries (5.1 avg.) along with 24 catches for 171 yards.
