Los Angeles Chargers Donate Funds to Wildfire Relief Efforts & Announce Supply Drive for Playoff Fan Events

On The Wire (NEW)

The Chargers will provide $200,000 in targeted funding to the American Red Cross, LA Fire Department Foundation, Team Rubicon and pet rescue organizations sheltering animals displaced by the fires.

Fans attending 'Charge Up to Playoff' events and the team's Saturday Watch Party on the Hermosa Beach Pier are asked to bring supplies for evacuation centers including El Camino Real High School – home of the Chargers 2024 HS Coach of the Year.

The Los Angeles Chargers today announced that the organization will donate $200,000 in targeted funding to several organizations throughout the greater Los Angeles region to assist evacuees, first responders, clean-up efforts and animal caretakers impacted by the several wildfires that have broken out across the region – notably the American Red Cross, LA Fire Department Foundation, Team Rubicon and several pet rescue organizations sheltering animals displaced by the fires.

"While we're currently experiencing unprecedented conditions that seemingly cannot get any worse as we deal with multiple fires across our region, we're also witnessing our community at its very best," said Chargers Chairman of the Board Dean Spanos. "The bravery, selflessness, courage, sacrifice and compassion on display over the past 24 hours by first responders, good Samaritans, friends, family and neighbors alike has been remarkable. Our hearts are with everyone who has been displaced by these fires, the firemen and police officers and frontline workers who are risking their lives to keep us safe and those among us who have stepped up to assist one another in this incredible time of need."

While the organization has cancelled its 'Charge Up to Playoffs' event scheduled for Friday in Sherman Oaks due to the fires, events tonight in Orange, tomorrow in Rancho Cucamonga and Saturday in Hermosa Beach will proceed as scheduled but also serve as a Supply Drive for evacuation centers in Los Angeles.

Fans attending any of the events are asked to bring any of the following items that people typically need in an evacuation situation: bottled water, blankets, new or gently used clothes, first aid kits, hygiene products (soap, shampoo, deodorant, saline solution, toothpaste, toothbrush, hand sanitizer), baby supplies (diapers, formula, wet wipes), feminine hygiene products, paper towels, toilet paper, portable chargers, pet food and water.

The Chargers and the team's fans have a storied history of stepping up in times of need, most recently this past November when The Chargers Impact Fund donated its 50/50 Raffle proceeds from the team's game against Tennessee to American Red Cross Mountain Fire relief efforts in Ventura County. From sending funds to Maui Fire relief efforts to aiding those impacted by Hurricane Harvey with a food and supply drive and monetary donation, supporting California Wildfire Relief efforts over the decades to supporting tsunami relief efforts across the globe, fans and the organization have consistently stepped up in times of need.
