Los Angeles Chargers el viernes pasado anunciaron que firmaron al ala cerrada Hayden Hurst.
Aquí hay cinco cosas para saber sobre Hurst:
1. Una temporada en Carolina
Los Chargers agregaron otro ala cerrada veterano a la sala en Hurst.
Hurst se une a los Bolts con seis temporadas de experiencia en la NFL, y más recientemente pasó una temporada con los Panthers en 2023. Jugó en nueve juegos (ocho como titular) y atrapó 18 pases para 184 yardas y un touchdown.
2. Ex selección de primera ronda
Hurst ingresa al edificio con cierta familiaridad con la gente del personal de los Bolts, comenzando con el Gerente General Joe Hortiz.
Hortiz era Director de Cazatalentos Universitarios en Baltimore cuando eligieron a Hurst con la selección general número 25 en el Draft de la NFL de 2018, convirtiéndolo en el primer ala cerrada seleccionado ese año.
Hurst continuaría jugando sus dos primeras temporadas profesionales para los Ravens bajo ahora Coordinador Ofensivo de los Chargers, Greg Roman, agregando otra conexión a su llegada a Los Ángeles.

3. Otras paradas
Aparte de Baltimore y Carolina, el veterano ala cerrada pasó algún tiempo en Atlanta y Cincinnati.
Hurst fue traspasado a los Falcons durante la temporada baja de 2020 y posiblemente tuvo su mejor temporada como profesional hasta este momento.
El ala cerrada atrapó 56 pases para 571 yardas y seis touchdowns, todos los máximos de su carrera. Jugaría otra temporada en Atlanta antes de pasar a su única temporada con los Bengals.
Se convertiría en el ala cerrada líder de los Bengals, liderando la posición con 414 yardas en 52 recepciones y contribuyendo hacia el Juego de Campeonato de la AFC esa temporada, terminando con la tercera mayor cantidad de yardas recibidas en playoffs (141) en el equipo.
4. Selección del Draft de la MLB
El fútbol americano no fue el primer deporte profesional de Hurst.
Después de jugar fútbol americano y béisbol a un alto nivel en la escuela secundaria, las universidades persiguieron a Hurst para continuar su carrera de lanzador a nivel universitario.
Pero Hurst optó por una ruta diferente: las Grandes Ligas de Béisbol.
Hurst fue seleccionado por los Pirates de Pittsburgh en la ronda 17 del Draft de la MLB de 2012 y firmó con el equipo terminando la escuela secundaria.
Jugaría dos temporadas en la organización antes de pasar al equipo de football de South Carolina en 2015.
5. Primer equipo All-SEC
No pasó mucho tiempo para que el ala cerrada se convirtiera en una fuerza en South Carolina
Hurst vería acción limitada como un estudiante de primer año en 2015, pero continuaría logrando algunos números en sus últimos dos años con los Gamecocks.
Su mejor temporada llegaría en 2017, donde atrapó 44 pases para 559 yardas y tres touchdowns totales en su camino para ganar una selección del primer equipo All-SEC. Hurst también terminaría como semifinalista del Premio Mackey, que reconoce al mejor ala cerrada del país.
Hurst terminó su carrera en South Carolina en segundo lugar entre alas cerradas en yardas recibidas con 1,281 en tres temporadas.
