Los Chargers seleccionaron al corredor de Troy Kimani Vidal en la sexta ronda (No. 181) en el Draft de la NFL 2024 el sábado.
La selección de Vidal le da a los Chargers más profundidad en una sala de corredores que incluye las recientes incorporaciones de agentes libres Gus Edwards y J.K. Dobbins, además de la selección del draft de 2022, Isaiah Spiller.
Vidal, de 22 años, mide 5 pies 8 pulgadas y pesa 213 libras, y está emocionado de unirse a una ofensiva de los Bolts que quiere golpear la linea.
"Creo en ello. Vengo de un equipo que creía en ejecutar el football," dijo Vidal. "Eso es todo lo que es.
"Estoy bendecido y feliz de haber participado en ese tipo de ofensiva," agregó Vidal.
Vidal, All-American del tercer equipo de 2023 según The Associated Press, también fue el Jugador Ofensivo del Año Sun Belt de 2023.
Corrió para 1,661 yardas en 297 acarreos y acumuló la segunda mayor cantidad de yardas terrestres del país. También superó la marca de las 100 yardas siete veces y corrió para más de 200 yardas tres veces en 2023. Vidal también agregó 14 touchdowns terrestres.
Vidal jugó en 48 partidos de su carrera en Troy, corriendo para 4,010 yardas y 33 touchdowns totales.
El tío abuelo de Vidal es Hank Aaron. El miembro del Salón de la Fama de la MLB falleció en 2021.
"[Él simplemente] me dio todo tipo de consejos y sugerencias durante la escuela secundaria y la universidad," dijo Vidal. "Se trataba más de adversidad que de cualquier otra cosa y de darme un contexto al respecto."
