Los Angeles Chargers el viernes pasado anunciaron que firmaron a Poona Ford
Aquí hay cinco cosas para saber sobre Ford:
1. Proveniente de Búfalo
Los Bolts tienen una gran presencia en el interior con Ford.
El liniero defensivo de 28 años pasó 2023 con los Bills, jugando ocho juegos, logrando 1.0 capturas y una entrada por pérdida.
2. Ex-UDFA
Ford no fue seleccionado al salir de la universidad en 2018, pero no le tomó tiempo causar una buena impresión.
Firmó con los Seahawks saliendo de Texas y jugó lo suficientemente bien en la pretemporada como para formar parte de la lista inicial de 53 hombres del equipo. El liniero defensivo se vestiría en 11 juegos (un inicio) durante su temporada de novato y contribuiría a obstruir el medio de la línea.
Ford se convertiría en un habitual en Seattle, pasaría cinco temporadas y jugaría 76 juegos (64 como titular) de 2018 a 2022 y lograría 181 tacleadas en total.

3. Creando presión desde el interior
Una de las cosas que Ford ha estado haciendo desde que llegó a la liga es presionar al mariscal de campo y al backfield.
El liniero defensivo ha acumulado 8.5 capturas en su carrera junto con 29 tacleadas de pérdida y 30 golpes al mariscal de campo.
Pero a lo largo de su carrera también ha creado 109 presiones en total según Pro Football Focus.
Algunas de sus mejores temporadas se produjeron durante sus últimos tres años en Seattle, donde se convirtió en una fuerza a la hora de crear cierta presión. Además de 7.0 capturas durante ese período, Ford también tuvo 83 presiones en un lapso de tres años junto con 66 paradas.
4. Linieros Defensivo del año en el Big 12
Ford entró como estudiante de primer año después de llegar con los Longhorns.
Fue un colaborador habitual durante las dos primeras temporadas en Texas, jugando en 21 partidos y sirviendo como un jugador constante en su interior.
Pero Ford se despegó en su tercer y último año.
Se convirtió en titular de los Longhorns a partir de su tercer año, terminando cuarto en el equipo con 54 tacleadas (40 en solitario) junto con 5.5 tacleadas por pérdida y cuatro prisas de mariscal de campo. También agregó un balón suelto forzado, un balón suelto recuperado y dos PAT bloqueados.
Ford subió otro nivel en su último año universitario, terminando con 34 tacleadas, ocho tacleadas para pérdida y 1.5 capturas.
Fue nombrado miembro del primer equipo All-Big 12 y obtuvo el premio al liniero defensivo del año de la conferencia Big 12.
5. DPOY Carolina del Sur
Antes de que Ford se convirtiera en una fuerza dominante en Texas, participó en el liderazgo del cambio de rumbo en Hilton Head High School en Carolina del Sur.
Encabezó una defensa que mejoró su promedio de anotaciones en dos dígitos en sus últimos dos años. Logró 17 capturas y 72 tacleadas combinadas durante sus últimos dos años.
La dominante en la ultima temporada de Ford lo vio contribuir en defensa, así como en ofensiva y equipos especiales en camino a una aparición en los playoffs y la mayor cantidad de victorias de la escuela en cinco años. Esa temporada fue nombrado Jugador Defensivo del Año en todas las áreas.
