Los Chargers seleccionaron al back defensivo de Maryland, Tarheeb Still, en la quinta ronda (No. 137) en el Draft de la NFL 2024 el sábado por la mañana.
Still describió su reacción al ser elegido por los Bolts.
"Sólo diría que el momento lo fue todo," dijo Still. "Tengo a mi familia aquí, dando vueltas. Esperando esa llamada, no sabíamos cómo sería el momento.
"Entonces sonó el teléfono y decía California, luego lo recogi. No podría estar más feliz," añadió Still.
La selección de Still le da a los Chargers más profundidad a un grupo de esquineros que incluye a Asante Samuel, Jr., Kristian Fulton, Ja'Sir Taylor y otros.
Still, de 21 años, pesa 6 pies y 189 libras.
Still fue seleccionado para el segundo equipo All-Big Ten de 2023 y empató en el sexto lugar en la FBS con cinco intercepciones.
"En realidad, sólo mi habilidad para quitar el balón," dijo Still cuando se le preguntó sobre sus principales cualidades. "Luego, mis instintos rápidos, ser capaz de leer lo que está pasando y reaccionar a lo que está frente a mí.
"Simplemente un creador de juego completo," dijo Still. "Puedo hacer lo que me pidan los entrenadores."
Still jugó en 39 partidos en su carrera para Maryland, registrando 165 tacleadas totales (124 en solitario) además de seis intercepciones, 28 pases defendidos y nueve tacleadas para pérdida.
Still se reunirá con el entrenador de apoyadores de los Chargers, NaVorro Bowman, quien estuvo dos años en Maryland antes de aterrizar con los Bolts.
